I don't agree with grouping people together, but I've heard a few stereotypes in the hospitality/service industry. What are the misconceptions? Which "Groups of people" don't tip at restaurants no matter what the service?

Our minister actually talked to managers at our main restaurants(city of ~50,000) and was told that servers were not tipped as well on Sundays. He shared this information as a sermon to show how not to be a disciple. How can we be examples of Christ if we can't even be giving? As a misconception, my husband and I don't usually dress up, we usually order water, and we don't get the expensive items. More than 50% of the time, we notice a change in attitude from the server. Afterwards they usually just do the basic check on us and one refill. Because of that, they barely get their 15% gratuity. Sometimes we've also let them know what we based their tip on and that we could've afforded more if they had put forth a little more effort.

When I was a waitress, I noticed three groups of people that don't tip well...
1. The elderly: They come from a different generation, many were raised during the Great Depression, so they tend to be more frugal with their money. They also don't understand that it costs more to live nowadays.
2. Tourists: I was a waitress in a town full of tourists and I think they're tighter with their money because they're on a budget and don't want to blow it before their trip ends.
3. Rude people: You know the type....Their food is never quite right, they can't say thank you, and they're never ever satisfied. They're rude for the sake of it and think it's funny to leave terrible tips. I once had a table that I bent over backward for and they left me 50 cents on a $30 check!

Unfortunately, I've been out with enough friends from church to know this is more than a stereotype. I try to tip extra out of "christian guilt", also "black guilt" since too many of my fellow blacks don't tip well either (again, from what I've seen when I'm out with them)

UPDATE: I just remembered, my wife and I went to see Joyce Meyer a few months back in Phoenix, and they actually made an announcement begging the attendees to leave decent tips when they ate out.

I would have said, "poor people" but I know some poor people that tip a few dollars. So, then greedy & selfish people.
I dont think it matters what religion someone is in.
OOOHhh. i see, from the answers others are giving...
Maybe its because the Christain people gave their money at the church basket before going to the restraunt. LOL. sorry :D I used to be Catholic.

I don't know what religous people the hosts have come across..but I try to always tip unless I receive lousy service, or a waitress with a bad attitude. Oh yeah! I'm a Chrisitian.

I think that group would be the cheapskates. In all honesty I don't know that there is a certain group. I'm an Episcopalian, and I always tip 20%.

My son was a waiter at a nice steak place while he was going through college. He hated to work Sun.,after church cuz he said the tipping was poor. He said it wasn't a particular ethnic group, just all. I'm Christian and I tip.

I tip 15-20%, sometimes more, and I am a Christian.
I have heard that some people don't, though. It is sad.

I leave a tip and a card to my church...(I have a habit of being too generous with my tips though).

I have been a waitress, and have had certain people leave me a daily devotional as a tip...I was like thanks (but this don't help me pay my bills..)

I'm a Christian, and, as long as the service is good, I tip...
Whoever is spreading this malarkey, (as my dad would say,) should be thumped on their pointy little heads.
