I used to be incredibly pessimistic, but now I realize that it's a perfectly viable option to be optimistic. It's just as valid to be hopeful about things as it is to be cynical and negative.
I think most relationships don't work because people settle for crap, which is not realistic--it's pessimistic. Why not hold out for something better? Why not work hard to make a so-so relationship great? It's not realistic to be lazy and hopeless about relationships.
Realistic does not equal pessimistic. Realism has room for a sense of humor, a sense of wonder, a sense that things could be better. Realism doesn't say, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." Realism says, it's a small world, and I could be with the one I love.
It's realistic to see the good things in the world, and love is certainly there if you look for it.
So maybe I'm Pandora, surrounded by a swarm of evils with hope still in the box. I think things will eventually work out for me. I think I'm both romantic and realistic.
So, yeah.

I think you can have a blend.. A realist is someone who just takes things as they are.. They deal with what they know exists. Why can't a realist believe in love? If they believe in love as something that really exists, then yes.. I think they could be romantic. Perhaps not as out of control as some people, but perhaps in a more genuine way..

I consider myself to be that specific blend myself. The realist part really makes you aware of the "hopeless" aspect of the hopeless romantic side of you.

I think they can be blended. I mean, I'm all for the knight in shining armor taking me away dream most girls have, and I love to think about things like what my wedding day will be like and stuff like that, but I know when to draw the line between reality and little girl fantasies. I guess its more normal to be both. If you are too into fantasy, then you'll never learn to settle for what you can find, but if your too realistic, you won't fall in love and feel the sparks flying and stuff like that.

I think there can be a blend of the two. Maybe some compromises have to be made here and there though.

you know i see those answers you got and i feel sorry for them... if you're interested in my opinion it's completely and absolutely positive... when you're in love with someone you want to do the most romantic things for them... you want to please them... care for them... being realist just makes you know when it would be too much... and there can be too much of everything... if you are that blend then some girl one day will be very lucky to have you as her man... good luck to you :)....
