About a week ago I came down with a fever of 104.2. The next day my leg swelled up to double it's normal size, was real red and hot to the touch. It was very painful to put wieght on it until about 3 days ago. The swelling has gone down a little and it's still rather red. Dr has me on 10 days antibiotics. I'm wondering how long before I should be concerned that it's not progressing like it should and go back to the Dr. I had never heard of this problem before (and I've been a caregiver for 17+ yrs! ) . Any info would be a great help!

After 10 days of antibiotic you should have gone back to your doctor so he/she can check further if you are responding to the right antibiotic, also the doctor could have ordered an ultrasound as well to make sure that you did not have a blood clot since you have real swollen, redness and sensitive to touch and painful, the symptoms of cellulitis and DVT (deep venous thrombosis ) are pretty much the same. Checking also the arterial circulation will rule out if there is any problem with your arteries, most patient who has cellulitis has poor arterial circulation as well.

It is a common problem to some but not to all, that is why it is important to see the doctor for follow up instead of waiting for it to comeback.

I had an experience with that last year though it seems not as bad as yours. Most of the swelling was gone after 5 days. If there is no improvement after 3 days of antibiotics you should go back to your Dr.
