How many people break the law, know they break the law, then try to beat it by a technicality. For example speeding tickets. They were speeding, they got caught, then the officer writes something incorrect on the ticket. Day after day I see people in here posting question on how to get out of a ticket that they deserve.
Do you ever wonder if these same people are the ones crying about police not doing their job, because some criminal walked free do to a technicality?

Exactly.
Its the age old argument that everyone wants to the police to be tough on crime, but those same people do not want the police to be tough on them when they are the ones violating the law.
It amazes me is that I see the "Why are the cops out hammering traffic when they should be getting the real criminals...".... But, I bet those same people would be very sad if some guy driving 20 miles over the limit T-boned their car and killed one of their children.
And for those to ignorant to understand, the police only enforce the laws. The laws are made by the people and written by legislators. Why are they not complaining about the law makers?
Its a no win situation.

Actually, it doesn't amaze me. Why? Because this country has so many people who were raised without learning responsibility. They were taught that it's always someone else's fault, and someone else is to blame. If you break the law, it wasn't really your fault at all. "After all, everyone else around me was speeding, so why did I get pulled over? Yeah, I was breaking the law by exceeding the speed limit, but how can I get out of it? I know, the officer made a mistake on the ticket. That will get me off the hook." Instead of being responsible and obeying the law, and accepting the consequences of not obeying the law, they decide to blame the officer. "He stopped me because ( you fill in the excuse )", or "he made a mistake". Shame on these people.

I don't think I could be a police officer. The junk they have to tolerate is amazing, simply amazing.
I've grown up respecting authority. I personally have never received a ticket but I have friends that have. My friends hold the same respect that I do and have in fact thanked the officer. Of course, this usually throws the officer for a loop but it's sincere. My friends have also been given a warning and it was probably because they answered the questions honestly and weren't trying to place blame elsewhere.
I think what you are talking about is simply a reflection on our society as a whole. Our children are no longer taught about personal responsibility. We no longer offer consequences for actions and instead negotiate with kids. It's a sad and dangerous thing.

I was told by my coach officer many years ago, that once we arrest and charge people that it is our INVESTIGATION that will be put on trial, not the evidence and not the bad guy's conduct.
I know this sounds odd, but it is very very true. OJ got off killing two people because the investigation did not stand up at trial.
I have seen an impaired driver get off his charges because the officer served him with a photocopy of a document (like he was supposed too) but didn't check to see if it was an EXACT duplicate of the original. He didn't write in his notebook that the photocopier made an exact diplicate and that he checked it before serving it.
It doesn't amaze me much, frustrates me a little though. We learn from each mistake we make and try not to do it again.

It used to amaze me.
People think that the law applies to everyone but them.
That they must have an excuse or the officer was unfair.
Then they want to know why the officer isn't out catching the real criminals.
I used to say that I would be, but their moving violation was taking me away from catching the bad guys.
What I would have liked to have done was make them go with me to the next fatal traffic accident caused by speed and inattention, so they could see the pain and devastation that their infraction causes.
It isn't about money and it isn't about quotas, it's about getting people to slow down, and save their life and maybe someone else's.

What is so incredibly frustrating for me is when one of these bone-heads, cries foul when busted for something or yells invasion of privacy and violation of civil rights but then expects the same cop to coming running when their drug deal goes bad/wife abuser acts up/is drunk and unruly and they expect that this person (Yeah amazing thing is behind the badge is REAL person) is suppose to approach even the biggest jerk with total lack of recall of the last episode of "Dysfunction Junction" and be there to do their job because NOW they want them there...
Oprah had a woman on years ago and I remember it to this day. She said "People make mistakes, cops are not suppose to." When the h*ll did they stop being people?

Yes. It's amazing...I suck it up and just add up the times that I got away with it and it all works out.
But...It amazes me more as to why the guy that blew past me wasn't caught first.
I think speeding laws are dumb. Just nail the people that are reckless like swerving in and out of traffic. If there's nobody anywhere near me, why can't I drive faster than posted?

It does piss me off that people cry about the "pigs" and how we/they don't do the job we're hired for yet try to beat every ticket given. I also get tired of people bad mouthing the cops just because of one bad experience.
Those pea brains couldn't do half the job an officer does on a regular basis. Stupidity breeds ignorance.

My husband says
When You go fishing in the river. Do you catch all the fish in the water?
Answer: Nope, some get away.
The unlucky ones always complain.
As for your question does it amaze me? No, I'm actually quite sick of the excuses and whining.
