My daughters hands and feet peel like that all the time. Our now ex doctor (long story) had told me to put athletes feet medicine on it it was a light version of athletes feet. I did it after every bath and it helped somewhat, but did not like the idea of it on her hands, you know kids and hands in the mouth.
We recently saw a dermatologist for another reason, and he said do NOT put the athletes feet medicine on it. Put Cortaid on it three times a day for 3 days and stop.
For a long time I have just been having her lotion her hands and feet more often and it helps. I ask him if that is OK, I really don't like putting that kind of medicine on my kids they have very sensitive skin, and he said that just lotioning is fine too. He said it is a mild form of eczema and as long as it does not get worse lotion is fine.
I only use Aveeno lotion on my kids because they have sensitive skin. Her hands tend to look kind of red also. We have been using just the lotion for a year or so now and it does the job well enough for me. I would be careful what kind of lotion you use on it though, I would not put scented on it. Aveeno is great lotion and not greasy.

Oh and I wanted to add, he said do not try to get it off, let it come off on its own.

well, it could be just dead skin cells so thats why hes peeling, then again it could be something else.im not a doctor, but a way to get the skin off you could use two things
1. it looks like a rock in the shape of a bar of soap and its gray (scrapes skin off when rubbed against)
2.a razor for ur foot. they make them just for helping dead skin peel off
then make sure you put cream on them. they have some creams that are very strong and are used for that.Personally i like the rock thing , the razor is too sharp.
Hope i helped

Do not use any tools or instruments to peel off his skin. He needs to see a doctor.
Is the peel thicker than a sunburn peel?
Did he run a fever beforehand?
Are the peeled areas red or inflammed?
They are likely to become sore or irritated, so go soon!

that happened to me recently & I was wondering what caused it too, but it went away on its own =)

Also, I got a pedicure so I'm sure that helped with my toes
