People like to say George Bush is stupid. I actually think he's pretty smart, or at least has smart people telling him what to do. The majority of America doesn't like what he's doing, so he diverts their attention. He did this with Gay marriage during the 2004 election, and is using illegal immigration to do it now. Now before you all flame me think about it.
20 million illegal immigrants didn't get here overnight, but it wasn't at the fore front of our minds until very recently.
Illegal immigration is easy to end, If you go after the people hiring them. We could end the problem with in weeks if this happened.

gunslinger because we now have the technology and tools to measure global warming, thats why it's brought up now, (and has been for the past 20 years) but this questions not about that, it's about illegal immigrants, I didn't hear about them 2 years ago much less 20

No doubt it's a diversion. The cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants is propping up our agricultural industry. They're not a problem, but all of the sudden people are focused on kicking them all out and building a big ol' fence on the border instead of looking at the Iraq War body count, national health care, national debt, daily White House scandals, etc. etc.

I think it caught alot of peoples interest after 9/11 and the BIG question became, are our borders safe?? But, I'm sure regular American citizens who live on the border states have been affected for a very long time, but didn't get the help and support of our Government, or the national media attention, and thats when we started seeing everyday folks like the Minutemen & women getting fed up enough to start doing the job themselves. But yes, Bush is very good at diverting and deceiving the American public on a whole wide range of issues. It's all part of a bigger agenda for Bush and his clan. NAU?

If you believe global warming, it has been happening for a while, why is that brought to the fore front?
Yes, global warming has been around for a while, but it hasn't garnered the attention it is now. Al Gore is such a big proponent of stopping global warming how come it wasn't a huge issue in 2000? My point is, certain things get pushed to the front then fade away. AIDS was a big issue in the mid to late 80's it went away in the 90's and has come back some with Bono and the (RED) campaign. The 80's and 90's was big for the starving kids in Africa. Remeber Brad Pitt, and the other celebrities and "Save TIbet" how come we don't hear about those now? These things are fads. These are issues people care about and 5 years from now, no matter what happens with global warming or immigration they will be on the back burner.
I agree it may be a smoke screen, but politicians do that all the time, and democrats are using global warming the same way. You take an issue you know you are strong on and force it down people throats and force them to think about it.

It was brought to light because the Minutemen started doing something about the problem. The Minutemen started patrolling the borders and building a fence. Because of the publicity the Minutemen got, the problem of illegal immigration couldn't be swept under the rug.

I don't know where you live, but here in the Washington, DC suburban area, illegal immigration has been an issue for a good number of years. Not just recently. But I agree that we should not only go after those hiring them, but that the day labor sites need to go.

I do not believe it is a smoke screen. I believe on May 1, 2006 America was sitting in front of their TV sets to watch the nightly news and saw the THOUSANDS of illegals marching in our streets across the country for "THEIR" rights with their Mexican flags. These marches woke the American people and now we are fighting back.

It was about time it happend now. Several American citizens who had to live amoungst these people, have been complaining about it. Finally our voices are getting heard. I wasnt such a serious problem as it is now.
