The War in Iraq was supposed to be over in 6 or 8 months. ( Anyone remember Rumsfelt saying "I don't believe the war in Iraq will last over 6 or 8 months"?)( Said in Feb 2003.) Why are our soldiers being killed everyday in Iraq? The Vice President stated the Iraq war could last another 50 to 80 years in order to do it correctly. Could this war really last another 80 years?

This is not the Iraq war. This is the war against terrorism as a whole. The battleground for terrorism is in Iraq right now. If we pull out, we risk the possibility of that battleground shifting to our country or somewhere in Europe. The war in Iraq ended quickly. We got rid of Saddam and his loyal, corrupt and brutal backers.

The people that are dying right now are Iraqi civilians at the hands of other Iraqis. We need to be there to help stabilize these tensions. Unfortunately, modern warfare and morality have weakened the resolve and power of our military. We use to give warnings and say if you get in the way, we will kill you. Now, it is all about targeted bombing and going into houses, schools and mosques to find the terrorists. This will last forever as far as I'm concerned. The only way to win is to say "everybody that is a friend of the US, clear out of this area" and then bomb the hell out of that city. We will never do this and thus, will never stabilize the region.

What do you hear about in the news?

How many soldiers died that day.

Is that a newsworthy story?

Of course it is.

What you do NOT hear about or read in the news every day, however, is all the good that our military and government are doing.

I am as critical of the Bush/Cheney Administration as most reasonable people. But, there are plenty of positive things happening as well that do not get reported by the mainstream media. Here is an excerpt of an article about an interview with one soldier:

"He (Mike) related the story of receiving school supplies, candy, books, etc. After giving an Iraqi student a notebook and pencil, the youth said, "Now my teacher won't yell at me because I have these. Thank you!"

Mike's unit also made basic desks and chairs for a school. They set up a water system in a more remote town.

The list continued. The mainstream media (MSM) doesn't want us to know about these kinds of activities. They have decided we're the bad guys. Well, we're not.

To answer your main question, it's because we are a decent nation and are trying to restrain our attacks only to enemy combatants...even to the point of taking more casualties than necessary due to our hesitance to fire. Our enemies, on the other hand, are willing to set roadside bombs wherever, and kill whoever just happens to come by...even their fellow Iraqis.

I'm just about sick of the war. I'm quite ready for the President to say something like:

"To hell with you Iraqis. We freed you from a vicious dictator...one of the most brutal in history...and you immediately fall into petty squabbles between yourselves. So screw ya...all the Iraqis in this whole country are not worth another American soldier's life, or another single dollar of US taxpayer money."

Then we arm the Kurds and tell them that...however much of the country they can take...they can KEEP. In six months every Iraqi would either be dead or long gone, and the Kurds would have their new Kurdistan. (Which would be a very oil-rich country that is tremendously friendly towards the United States.)

looking on the place they're flying from and the place they'll, it would desire to be as short 20 hours or as long as 5 days. I also have a Soldier who truly have been given back to the States in approximately 20 hours on emergency depart. yet while this is R&R depart i've got seen it take 5 days. the truly flight from Kuwait to the States takes 15-19 hours looking on stops alongside the way and the suited trip spot.

The war went quite well. Trying to deal with terrorist and the Iraq people is another matter. As far back as World War 2 We have dealt with these kinds of problems. My Dad was stationed in the Philippines and when World War 2 ended he had to stay there over an additional year because we couldn't get Japanese die-hards to surrender and come down from the hills. We dropped leaflets from planes used loud speakers etc. They wouldn't budge. We ended up sending men in to caves in coral rock with flame throwers to get them out ! (Every time we tried a peace full approach we lost more men). Even though the war was over they still wanted to fight. You know come to think of it that even happened in our own civil war in the USA. Certain southern troops just didn't want to quit.

Well the biggest problem is we really aren't even losing our soldiers to actual fighting. The biggest killer in Iraq today are road-side car bombs. Unfortunately we really can't do a whole lot to avoid such things like this, when your driving down a road in Iraq and a car explodes on the side you can't save yourself by shooting the car first or being a excellent fighter. We really need to come up with a better way to avoid road-side car bombs, if we did that we would have a whole lot less soldiers dying everyday.

judging by your question you have no knowledge of history or the military. I guess I can start by reminding you that we are still fighting in Korea which has been over for years. As to getting our but kicked don't believe everything you see on the news. The war is over we won soundly. What we are doing now is playing policeman to an enemy who won't come out and confront our troops and when they get caught in the open the get soundly stomped. The ones we fight now hide in houses behind women, children and churches. the let kids with bombs do thier fighting. We die because we aren't willing to destroy the enemy that is hiding among the women and kids.

The only place the US is getting whipped is in the press and on the internet.

The war against Saddam's Iraq was completed well before the 6-8 month mark. We won.

The war against terrorism will last a *long* time, unless we give them the naysayers and they realize only the dedicated are left in this country.

The U.S. never loss in Vietnam. It's one of the worst lies ever conceived in U.S. history. The U.S. left Vietnam, the Democrats cut off funding to the South Vietnamese and it still took 3 years for Vietnam to fall.

Here is a recent battle report:

Also note that 7 of the 18 providences have been turned over to the Iraqi government and the Sunnis are now going after Al Queda more than the U.S.

Also 4 times more U.S. lumberjacks and 2 times more British children drown each year than U.S. troops die in Iraq.

Meanwhile Al Queda just released a tape begging for reinforcements.
