Yes, that verse can apply to the Internet. (Perhaps most often the application is right here onYahooAnswers R&S.) That's actually how I pick and choose which questions to respond to.
And yes again, a Bible verse can mean two different things to two different people because of the uniqueness of each's life-circumstances. The Bible is God's living Word. It is dynamic and multifaceted. Even more interesting, the same verse can apply to us differently at different times in our lives.

I think the counsel at Matthew 7:15-20 is even more difficult to follow on here because you don't actually know -- or it's very difficult to know -- anything about the persons posting other than what they want you to know by what they post. Personally, I think that makes this forum even more dangerous than meeting false prophets in person. In person, you can get a better appreciation of their lifestyle and their true beliefs or lack thereof. On the internet false prophets can masquerade more easily because they have the internet available to them to research our beliefs and carefully craft their answers before posting. Right now I'm getting weary with this site. I think all the nonsense and criticisms gets to you after a while. As I have told you already recently, I'm seriously contemplating leaving it for good.

this verse is a warning not to get too caught up in whowhat your family might be - to avoid the 'I don't have to worry about following rules because of who I (or my family) am' kind of thing - but yeah. absolutely it can mean different things to different people and different things to the same person at different times. I was told once that you can take any book, hold a question in your head, and open it up to any page and you will find a thought or sentence pertaining to what you were pondering.....it's all about perception!

The trouble is, it is hard to get to people to agree on what is a foolish question. You can apply anything to the internet or modern times, but when it was written it had nothing to do with anything of today, so if it is correct it is just a coincidence.

I am not sure. According to that verse, I think it's saying that we should avoid foolish questions because the asker holds his views and it's a waste of time arguing with him because it may generate strife.
