If he believes in the Bible but not the Church; what does he believe about what the Bible says about the Church?
"if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."
I Timothy 3:15

I used to believe in the Bible but not my church. I was raised Penticostel but saw many areas in my so-called church or the way they believed that did not make sense. Hence, hell fire, going to heaven what sense that area did not make. Whenever I asked about it, I could never get a straight answer, plus my parents were extremely abusive and over wrought with their "rendention" of what a Christian was yet they lacked accurate knowledge and were extremely dysfunctional in the way they thought, they way they administered extreme physical discipline and punishment, etc. They were claiming to be Christians but their actions spoke otherwise .This was the same within their church members and religious leaders also.
Then two women came to my door a few times and left brochures. As they returned in the future I had questions about what makes a Christian a true Christian, and how come if everyone is proclaiming to be a Christian, why these so-called Christians are committing some of the most heinous acts and why celebrate Christmas when it was based on a fat white man in a fat white suit circling the earth jumping down chimneys at precisely 12:midnight every December 25 when this was a lie, yet Christians teach this lie to their kids?
I had so many questions and these women took me into their homes and explained so much to me but they always referred back to the Bible for the truth and proof. I now know that most Christians who say they are Christians are simply living in la la land because their crazed actions speak louder than their claims of Christianity any day. My younger brother who proclaimed to be a Christian has been molesting little girls for years and thank goodness he's been caught and is now on trial for "the most serious offense" in the 10th degree meaning there have been 10 charges against him. Both my parents are still proclaiming to be Christians but have since stopped attending church.
Most Christians are false and thus this would make their churches false indeed. The Bible however, will remain truthful to times indefinite, just like the earth.

I believe in the bible, but not the church. I don't beleive that listening to another mortal's explanation of the bible is right. I'm not stupid, I can read the bible and draw my own conclusions. I was active in the church when younger. Bible school, sunday school and church groups. I had a lot of fun, and met some great people. I pray, and try to be a good christian( although I don't always succeed). but I'd rather worship God on a mountain top, out to sea while watching the moon rise, or the sun set. Or when I look at my children. Anytime I see one of Gods miracles. That's when I feel closest to God. I don't like the opulance, or extravagance the church insists on. I'd rather donate my time and money to causes like St Jude's childrens hospital for cancer research or feed the children, then pay for a fancy church building. And I darn sure don't support the deaths, wars, and torture the church has caused in the past.
Just my input.

One cannot possibly believe in the Bible without believing in the Church at least a little bit, because the Bible was collected, preserved, canonized and distributed by the Church. In other words, if it wasn't for the Church, how would you know that the books that are in the Bible, SHOULD be in the Bible? Your dad is trusting the Church to be right on that score, at the very least.

I think church is important for fellowship and growing spiritually. However, the Christians ARE the church. You don't need a building. You can totally believe the bible but not the church and be a Christian. I think it is a good thing to go to church though.

I have a hard time with some of the PEOPLE in the church. I see where your dad is coming from. Good for him, for being honest.

Ditto here... the bible is fine, understanding many parts aren't literal; churches don't do anywhere near what they claim. I'd rather be a member of non-religious social organizations than a church.

i believe the church is there, but i believe that many of them are full of crap. i went to a new church last sunday where all the preacher did was jump around and holler and yell like a maniac. he didnt teach me anything- all he said was that jesus was sent to save us and other stuff bout jesus, but nothing about the verse he read. churches like that are a disgrace to the Holy Bible, which i believe, but have some trouble understanding.

yes, why should i believe in this church in which men have created in a time where women were only property and had no say in it. The church has been here for over many years, in which it has changed!
