Curse?
A terrible revelation is found throughout Scripture abou this word. The curse of God came upon the animal creation, Gen. 3:14; Isa. 11:6,7. The ground itself was cursed so that it has brought forth thorns and thistles ever since, Gen. 3:17-19; Isa. 24:5,6. The whole creation, including man, is involved, Rom. 8:22.
An important key to history is found in the fact that a special curse rests upon Israel's enemies, Gen. 12:3. The Jews themselves were cursed for turning away from God's Word, Deut. 28:15. IT was further predicted that they would be a curse while scattered among the nations, but blessing after God restores them to Palestin, Jer. 29:18; Zech. 8:13.
Everyone who has not perfectly kept God's law is cursed, Deut. 27:26; Gal. 3:10. "The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked," Prov. 3:33. Men are still called "ye cursed" when they are cast into everlasting fire, Matt. 25:41. However, Christ has redeemed from the curse all who believe on Him, being made a curse for them on the cross, Gal. 3:13. He bore the symbol of the curse when He wore the crown of thorns, Matt. 27:29. A curse rests upon anyone who preaches a false gospel, Gal. 1:8,9. or who does not love the Lord, 1 Cor. 16:22. The curse is finally to be lifted, Rev. 21:1-5; 22:3.
Do you think is wrong to curse?
Yes! 100% wrong especially if you are a "CHRISTIAN"
My reasons why it is wrong:
My words have an affect on others; they also have an affect on me. When I speak curse or evil, I not only reveal the sin in my own heart (Luke 6:45), I also reinforce that evil and cause it to grow. Jesus said it's not what goes into my mouth that DEFILES ME, but what COMES OUT. James put it another way: "The tongue... DEFILES the whole body" (James 3:6). My untamed tongue corrupts me.
On the other hand, when I refuse to give expression to impure, unkind, ungodly thoughts, I begin to choke and strangle the evil in my soul.
That's why the wise man said in Proverbs 13:3 that we must guard our mouth. When we do that, we starve the evil that is gnawing insidiously at the root of our soul. Do we want to put an end to the evil that so easily rises whitin us? With God's help, we must learn to control our tongue.

Yes it's wrong to curse. I'm in my early 40's and I can probably count on two hands (with fingers left over) how many times in my life I've used bad language. What's the sense of it?? Does it make you feel better to swear?? I think it just makes you look ridiculous. And what gripes me even more is when people say oh my g**. I HATE that!! To me, that's worse than other curse words. Don't demean God like that.
Saying nasty things....we all probably say nasty things...sometimes we may not think they're nasty, but they're taken as being nasty by other people. And it's not nice either, but if I get mad, I'd rather say something nasty rather than curse. I know that's not much better, cause it's just as much of a sin, but I don't feel that I'm hurting God by using His name in vane.

Yes I think it is wrong and I can't understand how someone who profess to being saved can continue to live there lives as if they never were. But why would even those who are not saved want to talk trash either. You know even a two year old can use words with four letter it would seem adults should be able to think of some six or seven letter words but some just dont seem to know any so they use the same four letter words over and over again. I always tell them "I wouldn't even want it on my shoes" they say "what you talking about" I say " what just came out of your mouth" I can't repeat most replies. REALLY GREAT QUESTION. Come on you Christians this applies to, lets hear from you I want to know also.

Not only is cursing a sin-particularily using the Lords name in any way as a curse word-but in my opinion is a sign of a lack of intelligence. If you have to use a curse word as a noun, verb, and adverb, you have a very limited vocabulary and need to get an education in language skills. Foul language is offensive to most people and small children pick it up real quick if it is used around them. So watch your mouth.

yes I do. there are several reasons. A kind word turns away rath. 2) the cursing only tends to increase the hostility of the situation and we are to be peace makers 3) when we curse we only reflect society rather than being a light to society. Now the word we call cursing isn't the same as to put a curse upon as it was in earlier times but he who controls the tongue controls the whole body.

I know it is frusterating & sometimes can feel like we (Christians) should set a good example for Jesus (& others)& when we witness other Christians not setting a good example it can be disappointing.. Pray for them... We do all make mistakes & there have been a couple of times when I have cursed while driving out of the heat of the moment - I felt terrible afterwards & asked for Gods forgiveness & Strength to not do it again.. Only the Lord knows what is in our hearts.. So, we have to try not to judge our brothers & sisters... Leave it to them to find mercy for there mistakes and sins.. Just keep focusing on you & pray for them :-) God Bless!

I'm not a Christian, but as a former Christian, I thought I'd throw in my own two cents' worth. Comedian George Carlin spoke my mind when he said, "There are no bad words--only bad intentions." I really feel that it's the emotions attached to the words that do the damage. Not the words themselves: In fact, I think that sometimes cursing allows one to blow off steam that may have otherwise been used to do something irreversibly stupid. I know it has with me every now and again!
If you're a Christian, consider this: Would God rather have His name spoken in vain, or would He want an act of violence dedicated to Him? If He had to choose, and strictly hypothetically, of course.
As far as hypocrisy goes... I've seen more than Christians not living up to the standards they set for others. I think that's a human issue--not a religious one. In fact, there's a common expression we've all heard that sums it up terrifically: "Do as I say--not as I do."

Jesus said, "But I say to you that for every careless word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment" (Mat 12:36).
If that does not put a check on how we speak (and write), nothing else will. Taking the Lord's name in vain is the most seriously sinful thing. People who say "Oh G*d!" or "J... .Ch...." as swear-words are blaspheming. They will be held accountable to Jesus Christ who is the Judge on Judgment Day.
If we personally know any Christians who are cursing and saying nasty things, we have an obligation to speak privately with them, to help restore them (1 John 5:16-17).

Well, your right...It is clear. We must be Imitators of God!
Ephesians 5:4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Psalm 34:13
Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit.
As you know, there are plenty more.
Paul said that he had no confidence in the flesh. The flesh has to do with the outward. The flesh is the human nature that leans toward performance and keeping rituals to make God happy. He said that he had done all of the things in the past that he thought he had to do to make God happy. But when he met Jesus, and Jesus showed him that he didn't have to behave properly or do a bunch of things to make him happy he stopped all of those things and said that he counted them as garbage--something to be thrown away. I don't know about you but when I take out the garbage I throw it away and don't think about it anymore.
We cannot deny our flesh, and sometime it slips out. No Christian should actually Curse someone! Nasty things (like vulgar) should not be spoken either.
But remember, Jesus was no sissy boy. He did not put up with nonsense. I will defend my God with everything in me.
All that being said....I'm a work in progress!

It's society, not the bible, that frowns upon cursing. Then again, just what is a curse word? I have my list of objectionable words and phrases and it may not jibe with another person's. I've been known to use common curse words in private, where they will always remain. As always God looks at the heart. Is a so-called curse word not said in anger or used to hurt someone objectionable to God? I don't think so.
