I've heard this rumor a couple times but have never really been to a bar myself so I was curious. I'm 20-living in Ohio (I know some states are different in their laws). I've heard that as long as someone over 21 buys you a drink then technically you can drink it. Sounds kind of bogus to me, although I know there's something about being with your parents and them buying you a drink.

Thanks. :]

NO,NO,No your friends just say that so you can buy them a drink. There's no way in hell that you can buy a minor a drink and it will be okay. If you go to a bar & IF you happen to be with someone under the age of 21- they might not let the person in & IF they do let them in their not allow to drink any alcoholic beverage. That's the law... If you get cought buying a drink for someone that's not legal drinking age then you can get into deep deep trouble. People do it all the time, & some places they dont even bother checking your age but if you get cought then you're in deep $hit.

Ohio does have that law ( as long as they havent changed it again it was passed quit a few years ago)
BUT if you're the 21 and over and u buy it IF U WALK away to go to the bathroom etc, and the 18 yr is still sitting there w/ that drink in front of them or drinking and the cops come in YOU will get in trouble you have to stay with them the entire TIME
but i would call your local non emergency number for the police station and ask them - that way if it has been changed you won't get in trouble
i call mine alot to ask questions that they would know the correct answer too

nah, you legally cannot buy someone under 21 a drink, but I've had friends do it for me plenty of times. In california, where I live, you can't get into a bar without an ID saying that you're 21 or over, but I've had friends buy me drinks at restaurants. I'm 20 as well...what an annoying age. But you CAN buy drinks for someone under 21, just not legally hahaha

Any person 21 or over who gives alcohol to a minor in a bar or anywhere else is looking at a "contributing to the deliquency of a minor charge" Sorry no way around it. And if it gets out that the bar you were at was serving minors, that bar would get shut down ASAP.

No, otherwise everyone that's underage would be going to bars with older people to buy their drinks and that could definitlely lead to some serious consequences.

If an adult gives a minor alcohol that's really against the law

It is illegal to buy alcohol for a minor. You can get ticketed and arrested and go to court under the law of "serving alcohol to a minor" and "contributing to the delinquency of a minor". Also, you will get ticketed also for "underage drinking". And if you drive, a lot of states have a no tolerance law where you loose your license until you're 21 and then on supervision for a long time. It will cost you thousands of dollars if you get busted for a sip of alcohol.

Your parents are allowed to buy you alcohol, but only if it's on private property and they are monitoring you. So even if your parents bought you a drink at a bar, you couldn't drink it.
It's illegal for a 21+ year old to buy underage friends drinks, but it happens anyway.

I used to paintings in a bar and that became between the great issues we appeared for. no longer something greater proper than busting a gaggle of minors attempting to drink their acquaintances beverages. i've got seen each and every of the tricks. Pouring it into an empty soda cup that the minor had, taking it to the showering room to drink in the stall, getting 5 glasses for a glass of beer, making use of a siblings identity, switching straws from the stir one to a typical one, sitting in a depressing corner, going with 15 acquaintances and slipping in direction of the gang, somebody letting you in the returned door, putting clean liquor in a water bottle, leaving it in the motor vehicle........etc..... do no longer try it you will get caught.

i have never heard of that. I think that if you do it at a bar they can still get in trouble for serveing a minor even if you didnt buy it.

Sure but only if you want to get arrested for Contributing to the Delequency of a Minor. Not pretty on your record. US drinking age is 21 period.
