Active meaning large attendance, many active groups within the community.

St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City:
Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Washington D.C; Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles; St. Louis Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri; and I'm sure there are more.

They're all the same church, just different parishes. Different parishes are active in different ways. In my own hometown, there are some parishes that are more active in reaching out ot the poor, others that are more active in getting young families involve, and still others that are more active in evangelization. Generally, our diocese (the geographic region that contains about half our state) is considered to be more actively orthodox than most other dioceses in the U.S. (which, I guess, is gauged by church attendance, instruction for kids, participation in bible study and prayer, tithing, etc.) We also have high numbers of priestly vocations, converts, etc.

I guess you'd have to what you mean by "active" to get any sort of real answer.

There are over 19,000 parishes in the United States in 194 archdioceses and dioceses.

It is practically impossible to determine which are the most active and would take a lot of time to determine which are the largest. However the average parish has over 3,200 members.

With love in Christ.

Your question leaves me wondering what info. you want. The word Catholic simply means universal so I don't know if you are referring to Protestant churches or the one church - the Roman Catholic church. Do you mean active in numbers attending that church or in proselytising. Or should one consider the non-denominational evangelistic organisations, some of whom have massive followings.
