Recently I have been "running into" dragonflies. I have been told that dragonflies are a very good omen, and just wanted to get some feedback. Last week, when I'd exit my back door, I would see the same blueish green dragonfly just perched on my door. And yesterday, while I was walking to work, I almost stepped on a HUMONGOUS dragonfly probably the size of my fist! It was square in my path, like I said I almost stepped completely on it. I know that the universe is trying to communicate something with me. Any ideas?

does anyone know what dragonflies symbolize and represent? What could this omen mean for someone in life?

Dragonflies represent the powers of light and transformation, and the ability to see through illusion. They bring prosperity and harmony. The dragonfly, as a totem, teaches skillful action while maintaining a free and joyful sense of being.

Dragonflies symbolize illusion, dreams, change, enlightenment, irresponsibility, unreliability, weakness, instability, swiftness, dreams and seeing the truth. They are messengers of the elemental world and the god/esses. They are connected to Summer.

Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change, the messages of wisdom and enlightenment, and the communications from the elemental world. Dragonfly medicine always beckons you to seek out the parts of your habits which you need to change.

You have no bad karma for not stepping on the dragonfly, sparing the life of a sentient being. Other than that, what the "universe is trying to communicate" to you, only YOU can answer that.

Dragonflies are a way to remind you how delicate and beautiful life is - and that, just like their wings change color in the light, so your life is changing. They are gentle reminders of beauty - especially the beauty within.

One really awesome source about the symbology of animals is the Medicine Card set by Jamie Sams. Good place to start understanding how other beings bring us messages.

The website listed above is good, too (in another post).

There is no such thing as signs or omens. Gullible people will see signs in anything, not that I'm saying you're gullible. This is the time of year for them to be out. Nothing more.

To the Chinese, the dragonfly is a symbol of Summer. To the Japanese, the dragonfly is a symbol of strength, courage, happiness and success. Perhaps this summer is going to be productive and profitable for you :)

It means two things:

Dragonflies are doing well in your area.

You need to take some classes in statistics and economics (econ teaches a lot of theory analysing events).

They symbolize a yard full of bugs for them to hunt.
