Well, you have gotten the answer many times, a deuce and a half. But it was not just to carry troops during WWII, it was used to haul just about everything. My dad was in the Oklahoma National Guard in 1940 and drove one. The one he drove was the mess truck so he hauled pots and pans, the mess tent, food and the cooks. Also pulled the cook trailer (the kitchen). He told a story that one time, during the Louisiana maneuvers, they got separated from their unit and one of the cooks asked "What are we going to do now?'. He said he told him "Don't worry about it. When they get hungry they will find us".

I don't know what kind of lorry the Brits use, but the closest thing the U.S. has to that kind of vehicle are 5-tons and 2.5-tons, the latter of which are commonly called "deuce-and-a-halfs". I don't recall what the "M-" name was for either, but they're common and are found in most units' motorpools, in various versions. I'm sure that the British have a similarly large troop carrier in their inventory, and have in the past... this one to me looks like it might be a bit older.
