You need two kinds of software for this:

1) A software to convert your AVI to MPEG-2.
2) A software to burn a Video-DVD.

There are programs which combine both functions in one shell, http://www.dvdflick.net/ should do what you are looking for. (DVD Flick ist free software)

The best there is, is by Roxio, Toast 8
I suggest you do a Google search
There is much more to burning then just click and burn.
Software...Media you use...and Speed you burn at... And the optical Drive in your machine all have an affect on your ability to burn.
