I don't think that Joel is the best place to go to get the answer to the question. Joels prophecy will not be completely fulfilled until the millenial kingdom and the final judgement. But Peter, by using it, shows that Pentecost was a pre-fulfillment, a taste of what will happen in the millenial kingdom when the Spirit is poored out on "all flesh".

Joel 2:28 it says "and it shall come to pass afterward". After what? "the great and awsome day of the Lord".

For "blood" see Rev. 6:8; 8:7-8; 9:15; 14:20; 16:3. For fire see Rev. 8:5,7,8,1. For "smoke" see Rev. 9:2,3,17,18; 18:9,18. For "Sun darkened,...moon into blood" see Matt. 24:29-30, Rev. 6:12. For "Day of the Lord" see 2 Thess. 2:2, Rev. 19:11-15.

The last days are synonymous with the days of Messiah. He came and initiated those days. He was rejected. He went back to glory. He'll come again to establish His Kingdom. But these are the last days.

Dear Dave,

The last days began right after Christ rose again from the dead. We read in Hebrews 1:1-3, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:"

There is one Prodestant Group that believes it is the last days now. They arrive at that conculsion based upon the return of the Hebrews to Iserail , in order to rebuild the Temple under the directions and permission of the Empire Tydus.

Starting at that time prior to the birth of Christ is a counting of years in the number 2620 days, (days, each day being equal to a year) a portion of that time is allowed for the Hebrews to get their religious act together and to cease the unlawful acts running against the Ten Comandments. Their time was to be between the time of the start of the rebuilding to the death of Christ upon the cross. At that point in time, the great curtain was torn in the Temple and the laws of sacrifice were done away with because of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. The worlf would be taught and there would be a great falling away from the gospel. In the 1870 aprox period of time when the French took the Roman Pope into prison there was the falling away. Until Europe came out of the Dark ages with the freedom of religion from roman control time had passed. Then came the final segment of the 2600 days (years of time) and the reflaming of freedom to worship as the individual pleased. From that time forward, the end time is refered to as the "Cleansing" of the Heavenly Sactuary. Christ as the High Priest of all the Human race assended to Heaven after his final words to the Apostles to do that required work. It is further explained the Heavenly Temple was to serve the same function as the earthly Temple, where in, lambs were slain in a fore shadowing the death of christ on the cross. After the earthly temple had been used for a year, including the portable temple which was moved with Moses et al, once a year it must be santified and cleansed. Thus certain Prodestants believe that at this moment, Christ is doing that work. As soon as it is cleansed, he is suppose to return for his people and the first reseurection. Thus it could be any day now if you place any creditabilty in that reading of the Bible. This information to be found in Reading Daniel and Revelations

According to Mathew 24:3-14 the sign would be when we start seeing these events take place. They started in 1914 with WW1 and continue today as 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says.

the Lord's day began when Jesus took his rightful throne 2520 yrs after it had been removed in 607 BCE by King .Neb‧u‧chad‧nez′zar, of Babylon
(Ezekiel 21:25-27) 25 “And as for you, O deadly wounded, wicked chieftain of Israel, whose day has come in the time of the error of [the] end, 26 this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said, ‘Remove the turban, and lift off the crown. This will not be the same. Put on high even what is low, and bring low even the high one. 27 A ruin, a ruin, a ruin I shall make it. As for this also, it will certainly become no [one’s] until he comes who has the legal right, and I must give [it] to him.’

this happened in rev ch 12 in 1914 ce

Hundreds of years previously in Joel 2:28-32. In Hebrew the prophecy says: “And after that it must occur that I shall pour out my spirit on every sort of flesh,” and so on.

Under inspiration of God’s spirit the apostle Peter located where “after that” applied on the stream of time by saying “in the last days.” So about 850 years after Joel’s prophecy had been finished, those “last days” had begun, and Peter was living in them.

Was Peter living in the “last days” of the whole world system of things? No, for here we are, living more than 19 centuries after Peter was killed as a Christian martyr.

The Scriptures speak of Peter as living in the “last days” of something away back there, and yes, those particular “last days” began with the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptizer and Jesus’ being anointed with the holy spirit after his coming up out of the water. Thus he became the Christ, or Anointed One. (Acts 10:37, 38.)

So the “last days” back there began in the autumn of 29 C.E., when Jesus of Nazareth was an adult of 30 years of age. (Luke 3:21-23)

These are the end times - they began at Pentecost in the year 33 AD, and continue to this day.

See Acts 2:17 - St. Peter quotes the prophet Joel to the crowd at Pentecost: "'It will come to pass in the last days,' God says, 'that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams."

On the Day of Pentecost:

"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
" 'In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams." "

It's happened dozens of time.
And each time they turn red, and then change the subject when it doesn't actually happen.
Same thing is happening now.
Mythology is just that. Nothing to worry about.
