I can't make any sense of the metaphor, so I'll limit myself to noting that science tells us all that we can possibly know, and religion tells us nothing.

I think that you cannot hold one without weighing the other. After all, every culture has its own myths, fairy tales, creation stories, and what are these if not a type of religious doctrine, even if they do not always comply with Western conventions or the most widely held opinions of what defines religion. Also, ever culture, in order to survive, has developed some type of science, whether it was machines, shelters, or medicines. These may have been looked at as human ingenuity or as a Divine favour to the human masses depending on the culture.
That said, I think that religion and science have both lost a bit of their original meanings. Science used to be about pure discovery in a world where everything was unknown. Religion was a way to ease the mind, give people a purpose and a moral code. In my opinion, today science is moved more by money than by a need to learn, and religion is the exclusive club with rules that we all claim to live by in order to justify that we really are good people. Both are more about politics and ploys than anything else, but we need both because what science can't explain, religion can, and vice versa.

Someone once said "there are some things in the Bible I don't understand, some things that I only think I understand, and some things I cannot possibly misunderstand."

I think the same is true of science.

Science is a ton of investigation, and religion is a ton of bullsh*t.
