They'll keep doing it just like they have for the last 2000 years.

Atheism. You know it makes sense.

Dear Mrs. Pink Eye,

From everything the Bible tells us, it appears that 2011 may be the year that Christ returns. His 2nd coming will mark the end of the universe and Judgment Day. This is not a year that was just pulled out of the air! The Lord gave a wonderful calendar in Genesis chapters 5 and 11. The earth was created in 11.013 BC. The flood of Noah's day occurred in 4990 BC. God gives an interesting verse in 2 Peter 3:8 as He transitions from the flood of Noah's day to the forthcoming end of the world, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Remember, God gave Noah 7 days to get his family and all the animals into the ark before the flood would come. If we multiply 7 X 1000 we get 7000 years. Now add 7000 to 4990 BC and you arrive at 2011 AD (remember that "0" must be counted as 1 year as you go from BC to AD). The flood of Noah's day destroyed the entire world except those that were in the ark. The ark symbolizes Jesus Christ, just as the ark of the covenant represented God to Israel. The next time God destroys the world it will be by fire (2 Peter 3) and unless one is in Jesus Christ (saved; born-again) they will caught in the fierce wrath of God.

I hope this of some help to you.

Anyone else remember the booklet '88 reasons why the rapture will be in 1988'? I don't expect the expectations to end any time soon. If a prediction that the end would come within the lifetime of those who heard Jesus is still being recycled 2,000 years later, it is unlikely anyone is going to stop now - although the focus on it differs from denomination to denomination and country to country. Many denominations, like several New Testament authors, are happy to reinterpret things in light of the unexpectedly lengthy history that has ensued in spite of these predictions!

Many, many, many times because they don't know how to just let go and enjoy life. They look forward to the end of the world... it's really kinda sad that they don't embrace life now rather than focusing on when it's all going to end.
P.S. I am not referring to all Christians just the ones who stand on street corners holding signs like "The END is NEAR". Also, people who can recite the book of Revelation and those who live their lives around the latest guesstimate of Armageddon.

Ah, end time prophecies. I love em. I remember when people were saying that the year 2000 would be the end. Well we're still here. I remember people talking about May 5th, 1998 when the polar caps would shift. They didn't. Now the new target date is December 21st 2012. On New Years Day of 2013 I plan to issue a press release denouncing the credibility of all evangelists who talk about end time prophecy.

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!

Actually, a point about orthodox and traditional Christianity. These are the end times - they began at Pentecost in the year 33 AD, and continue to this day.

This traditional eschatology of Christianity does not mean that the world will blow up tomorrow. What it means is that we are in the age of the church on Earth, Jesus' destiny-altering work on Earth is done, and this stage of the relationship between man and God is the last stage, before we are all gathered at the Heavenly banquet.

"Established in this last age of the world and made manifest in the outpouring of the Spirit, it will be brought to glorious completion at the end of time." (Lumen Gentium, Vatican II)

We're IN the end times, not near them. The END is near. And this Christian will continue claiming that until the end is here. And will never "stop falling for it" because the Truth has been spoken by Jesus Christ himself.

Revelation 22:7
"Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book."

Revelation 22:12
"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.

Revelation 22:20
He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5
1Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

The end times have been proclaimed as coming quite soon since the inception of Christianity. No one knows.

I am a Christian myself and scripture itself warns against setting dates for events but unfortunately there are so called Christians and Cults who set dates anyways.

Christ said that only his Father knows when it will come to pass, Christ also said you will know when it is near by the signs.

Among the signs are the rebirth of Israel as a Nation (State of Israel declared in 1948) the Jews retake Jerusalem from the Gentiles (happened in 1967).

The Generation born with the rebirth of Israel in 1948 may pass away before Christ comes back, or it may not (we don't know for sure), however the Generation born in 1967 is not going to pass away before the 2nd coming of Christ.

Ok the rapture predicted in the Bible could happen in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, or it could happen tomorrow, we don't know for sure when it will happen.

One thing for sure, the rapture of the Christian Church before the great tribulation will come when we least expect it.

Once that happens all sorts of news reports will be in on missing people, rumors will even spread that the Aliens kidnapped a bunch of people (even though the Aliens story will of course be a total myth but a lot of people are really going to believe it for a time).

A man called the Anti-Christ will reign, for 3 and a half years he is controlled by satan then killed (probably by an assasin's bullet) then satan himself will enter the body of the Anti-Christ to bring him back to life, and loads will believe that he is God.

During this time those who come to faith in Christ will be killed for their faith, luckily some will manage to make it to the 2nd Coming of Christ which will cause those who were faithful right to the 2nd coming to have their bodies transformed to perfect sinless bodies.

But the Anti-Christ with satan inside of him, and those who followed him will all be tossed into Hell immediatly upon seeing Jesus return.
