I love San Diego and can't wait to go back.
Here's a food and bar link:

If you like zoos, don't forget to get to the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Wildlife park during the day. One thing I have always wanted to do was book the "Safari Tour" at the Wildlife Park so I could get some up close shots of the animals.
Balboa Park is a great place to walk around during the day. There is an quaint area where artists live and work. It's quite fascinating.
Have fun. Find a good link, semi-plan what you are going to do and then just follow your bliss.

San Diego is NOT an older persons city. I love San Diego! I was born there and live there for a long time. Wish I was there now... I'm not sure what the party scene is like (since i'm not old enough YET), but there are many things to do in Downtown San Diego from what I hear. I think the beach areas have nice clubs. My sister and her friends always goes clubbing down there, but then again she might have different tastes of partying than you and your friends. I think you can just google up clubs in San Diego. Sorry wish I was better help.

Old Town is lame. tourist trap. Downtown Gaslamp is where all the clubs and great restaraunts are. The Club at The Ivy, Stingaree, and many other clubs. Petco Park is downtown as well to catch a Padres game. Pacific Beach (not Mission Beach) is a great palce to hit up some beach bars and catch some sun. I would recommend staying in the Gaslamp (Hyatt, Omni, Marriott) and renting a car.

I highly recommend club stingaree in the gaslamp district. Its a 3 level restaurant/club.
The weather is real nice out there right now. On the 3rd level is a open roof with a bunch of cabanas and fire pits set up, a real nice atmosphere to lounge and meet and greet after you get done dancin on the 2 second floor.

The Gaslamp is a lot of fun. I would also recommend going to the Point Loma Fish Market for Lunch. Very laid back and great food. They have a website.
