I really don't know. I went into a store in the mall that was run by an Asian guy, and he totally insulted me. I was trying on a quipao for this Girl Scout function, and he kept trying to take it away from me and ask me what size I wore, because apparently he thought I was too fat to fit into his precious dresses.

Personally, I have been in quite a few Asian owned and operated stores and restauarants in the US. I have never been treated less than decent in any Asian owned establishment. Sometimes, I have been treated extremely well infact. If you consider Afghanistan to be Asian (which some consider it the "Middle East" even though it's actually South Central Asia), then I have been treated extremely well in Asian businesses. Perhaps, it just depends on the individual...

To all who say this question is racist, go to China sometime. Boy, you'll get a major wake-up call! Read Leonard Nimoy's book, I AM SPOCK. In it, he recounts his visit to China, and tells of the most deplorable rudeness by servers in every restaurant he visited. In one instance, a server was so rude to a customer, they got into a fistfight. I have a good friend who owns several factories in China, and he has told me similar stories.
I think that many of the Chinese who open shops here in the States are trying their best to assimilate into American culture, and as a result they try to treat their customers like any other American shopkeeper, that is with respect.

This could simply be a matter of cross cultural misconception.
eg a kow tow may be an insult depending on where you happen to be standing and how you percieve this mini ritual.
Joining of the hands for greeting could be misunderstood to be a challenge for a fight in the classic BRUCE LEE STYLE.
It can often be a matter of misconstrusion and highlighted by paranoia.
Have you ever seen anyone disrespectful when you pay them money???

Like all generalization, this is an example of personal observation on a few applied to the many. Rude or, for that matter, friendly, has no racial identity, only an indication of the limited vision of the person making the association.

I've never had a problem like this. I'm always treated with respect and they (Asian, Korean, Japanese, etc.) always go out of their way to help me if I need help with my shopping or whatever I'm doing.
Sorry you had to go through that ordeal.

I live in Britain and here no-one respects their customers, even if the customers pay their wages, - it's equality of treatment for all.

From personal experience I found that people treat you the way you treat them so if you are kind to others people will be kind to you. If you go into an establishment expecting to be treated bad than that is likely how you will be treated.

So I assume you have had contact with every Asian that works in a store so that you could generalize like that?
