I agree with the above answers, police and definately change all the locks in your house, but the other thing you have to do is completely ignore him. Don't take his phone calls, don't answer your door if he comes over, and if you run into him by chance, do not talk to him. It may be hard, but it's what you have to do to get someone to leave you alone.

These steps work for me, just follow them in this specific order.
1st- Change the locks to your house
2nd- Warn him for the LAST time that if he doesn't leave you alone you will file for a restraining order.
3rd- Change your house and cell phone numbers.
4th- If after all this, he's still bothering you...go to the police.

Restraining order. Get paperwork and have the police or a male family member get your keys back. The restraining order not only tells him to stay away, but documents that you are having difficulty with him in the event he escalates his behavior

Gather as much information on him as possible. Background, license plates, driver's license, friends, addresses, work. You need a photo of him. Put it in an envelope and and mail it to someone you trust, with instructions to open only in case of your disappearance.
Demand your house key in a public place with friends. Say his name so people will remember. Play hardball...you're in danger. Call police for a civil standby...its free. Change your locks, he probably made copies.

change the locks now!!! if he is writing letter or leaving phone messages save them in case they elevate into threats. go to your local police station and explain the situation and take out a restraining order. no one has the right to harass/stalk you. dont just hope it goes away

just change the lock on your house. it's a small price to pay for your freedom and peace of mind. just as long as you're sure you don't want anything to do with him anymore, and that you're not sending him mixed messages
