My dog, who is still very young and could be considered a puppy, is soooo hyper all the time. None stop! Constantly running circles around your feet, nipping at you jumping, attacking your pants/shoes. We give her plenty of attention each day but she NEVER settles down. We try teaching her "calm' and 'settle' but it's useless. Is there anyway I can get my dog to take it down a notch (or 20) ??????/
Please help- and thank you!!

Also please, if your just gunna comment and say somthing rude, save your breath, I don't care to hear it

Sorry I forgot to add- I take my dog (and son) on a 2+ mile walk twice a day and it does nothing. Come home and shes still just as energetic. She's a boston terrier, under as year. We have 3 kong toys (no everlasting edible thing though) and she's never really interested in them and we have a lot of chewy/squeeky toys for her too, but she's only ever interested in chasing us lol
Thanks for all the replies and help

I have a new puppy that is 1/2 Norwegian elk hound & 1/2 terrier.and I know what you are going thru. They say that they will naturally calm down after they turn 2. My pup is like a rocket running all over and jump on you if possible. I started to take him for walks in the morning before I go to work and that makes him tired (and gets me exercise) then for when he is pinned up (in a small room not in a kennel) we got him this toy a friend recommend. Depending on the size of your dog the toy is about $30 at Petsmart. It is a ball that is unbrakeable that you but treats in and then you put this everlasting eatable insert on the opening to lock the treats inside and it rolls around so he chases it. The dog has to eat thru the insert to get to the treats. My dog works for hours on it until he gives up or gets the treats out. I don't recommend it if your dog is smart. We have a 1/2 rott 1/2 german shepard also and it take him under 2 hours to get the treats out . Also having our second dog helps because they play all the time and wear each other out.

More exercise. A tired dog is a good dog. For a truly energetic dog, walking won't cut it. He needs to run, jump, etc. Throwing a toy for a long distance, especially into water (if it floats) is an option. An attachment to a bike to allow running beside is good. Pulling a cart you ride in will work. A good hunt if he is independent enough to get far from you and well trained enough to return when called can work. You get the picture.

First, you posted to a public board... people are going to say rude things.. you just need to get over it.

Second.. you don't mention the breed, the age, whether or not the animal has been altered, or how often/long you walk/exercise the animal.

Without that info I'm going to take a wild stab and guess that you need to be exercising the animal for longer periods of time in the morning and evening -- a good 45 minute walk twice to three times daily should tucker the dog out enough for a nap, at least momentarily.

Take your dog on a long walk or to a dog park where it can run all it wants until it gets tired. If you don't have one around you try a doggie day care place. Good luck to you.

The pent up energy has to go somewhere. How much do you walk your dog?
Hope I'm not too rude.

My dog is the same way. She runs laps full speed around our yard and through the house. It's quite amusing to watch actually. I started running her about 7 blocks and walking 7 back in the evenings. It seems to keep her pretty level through the day.

Well, one thing you can do if things are out of control is try "Zen" dog treats. "Zen" is the brand just like "Milkbone" or "Pup-peroni". This brand makes special treats that will supposedly calm your dog down. Other than that, get one of those automatic ball-throwing machines or something so it'll tire her out. Just try the treats and always keep her busy!

you may be giving the dog plenty of attention, but she still needs exercise: take her for walks, play fetch, chase, etc.
a lot of behavioral problems can be solved by giving dogs plenty of exercise.

She needs to be doing things. Along with exercise, try some obedience (to teach self-control, especially "Stay"), maybe agility. Teach her things to do around the house to keep her busy.
