I would think long an hard about doing a theme wedding. It really works for some people and for others, its just one of those things you look back on and wonder why you ever thought it was a good idea. It's sort of an all or nothing thing. If you go half way on a theme it can be just weird and people don't really get it (for instance, Roman garb, togas etc in a church.... doesn't make much sense.)
Perhaps you could just look at getting married at a vineyard. It's a lovely setting for a wedding and would have an Italian/roman flavor. You could get a dress that was inspired by roman wear, something flowy, tied at the waist, etc but is still modern (actually this style was kind of popular in the disco era, so be careful!).
I don't know, just a few ideas. But if you are totally set on the idea of wearing a Roman dress do some research. It was actually just variations of a big sack with arm holes and a head hole gathered and tied in different ways. Would be very simple to make, even with little knowledge of sewing.
Good luck and best wishes.

They have lots of Grecian/Roman wedding dresses in recent bridal magazines lately because that has been rather popular in the fashion world. I would flip through them and find out the corresponding brands. Now is a good time to go that route because they have become so fashionable! I think it would be a beautiful, soft and romantic way to dress for your wedding. Good luck and congratulations!!

Do you know any good seamstresses? You can find a pattern and the material you like and have it made just the way you want it. If that's not an option, then maybe look into costume shops. They may have what you are looking for. Good luck!

Simplicity and other pattern makers have several Roman patterns. A Roman bath inspired reception could be very entertaining. :) A themed wedding is something you and your guests will remember for their entire lives. Have fun! Hera's blessings upon you!

Here is the dress/ costume that I found that I am using for my wedding dress. I think it looks like something from Roman times.
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M2895.htm?tab=costumes&page=7 There is another one on here but not as pretty.
Hope these help you some. Sorry if this isnt what you are looking for.

Hm... I would say ur best bet is to go to a costume store. I know, ur thinking they would have tacky, but they really have some beautiful Roman outfits that are gorgeous.

search ebay!!!
i have seen several themed dresses. can't recall if it was roman specific since i haven't looked in months.
but i didn't see renisance and victorian.
there are lots of sellers based in china that would probly make the dress for you if you provide detailed pictures and measurements of what you are looking for.
i think that would make for a beautiful original dress!! congrats

I would venture that a costume shop would be the ticket, or just design your own toga using some designer cloth. Can't wait to see your husband-to-be's bare legs! (Sorry, poor guy.....)

Maybe a good theatrical costume shop?
Or have one custom made by a seamstress.
