The lightning storms here are becoming more intense, Global warming sucks. We have changed all the lights in our house to compact fluorescent bulbs and have wrapped the hot water pipes. I use a push mower to cut the grass and do all the gardening by hand NO electric or gas power. We compost and recycle as much as possible. We are leasing a more fuel efficient car. The heat is set for 20 degrees and air conditioning is set at 25 degrees Celsius. Why is it that it seems I am the only on in my town to give a crap. Is this a hopeless cause?

For those that do not believe that our world is being altered by our actions, I feel sorry for you and your ignorance will be your downfall. Why should my children and all children suffer because of the STUPIDITY of people that only believe what they want. Science says we have ten years to make chages and repair our world. I say we have about FIVE left and then the earth will rebel. God Bless us all and for the ones that don't care or believe, I hope you get waht yo deserve.

Don't give up hope - feel proud for the sacrifices and contributions you're making.

The problem is that you're correct - relying on individuals to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions will not slow global warming. We need to reduce our emissions by at least 50% within the next 40 years. This will require governments to set emissions caps or at least put a tax on carbon emissions. It's good for individuals to do what we can to minimize our own emissions, but we also need to convince our governments to require everyone to cut their carbon production.

Why do you think scientists are right all the time? The earth is the center of the universe right? More recent ones If man were to fly God would of given us wings? The human body will disintegrate if it passes the sound barrier the air plane nearly did! Man will never break the sound barrier on the ground Done that too. Plant as much landscaping as possible trees 57 Douglas fir trees neutralize one cars emissions. I used to plant 1,000 trees a day on the hill sides of Oregon Good days 30 years ago. Global warming You should see Texas July 6 and not one day of 100 degrees this year but almost 100 days of rain March Thur July 6 Flooding like I have never seen. Did not the scientists say we would experience more stronger hurricanes? OK where are they? Prove global warming and a (ice age) will happen. It is good to watch our carbon emissions but lets not throw our economy in a tail spin just because some scientists say we have temps 5 degrees Celsius higher this century?

I am environmentally conscious and do my part to ensure we're breathing clean air and drinking clean water - BUT - I do not buy into the global warming hype. I remember well when global cooling was the big scare tactic, then it was acid rain (where did that go?). Listen carefully before you dis this answer friends... there's just too much money to be made by having you wring your little hands raw over worrying about this scare tactic - and there's too much power to be aquired by making you scared and having you vote accordingly. And it really chaps my hide when someone assumes that because I don't believe the global warming crap coming from our liberal elite that I'm somehow anti-environment. I do more for it through my actions than they do through all their hot air!

My advice - you're doing a great job keeping the environment clean, and you're being rewarded financially for it through lower costs. You should lead by example and stop worrying or yourself sick.

No, you can still do MORE...

Leasing a car? That encourages over-consumption and energy/resource waste. You should be buying to own, and plan on owning for 10+ years. Leasing means replacing a (usually) well-running vehicle every 2-6 years. Bravo. Disposable cars. Cars don't grow on trees, you know...

Internet and computer? Probably the greatest driver of over-consumption in the last 15 years. Give that up, and things won't seem as hopeless...

You may not realize this, but lighting has been happening for a while. Believe it or not, I remember seeing some once in the 1970s when it was relatively cool (that was sarcasm in case it was not realized). You might want to get a grip and stop blaming every little thing on global warming. I hope your town continues to ignore the nonsense. Sounds like you live in a good sane community.

Hopeless or not. Im still entring the Virgin Earth Challenge. The Prize is $ 25 000 000. USD. Then I can buy myself a fleet of Hummers a private yacht, personal jet, some extra homes and maybe a Cadialac to top it all off just like The Terminator and Al Gore. Then I can make my own Enviornmentalist documentary and fly around the world in my jet to promote it.

It may seem like you are the only one in your town, but you are not the only one in the world. You would be surprised how many people care and have changed, even just little things to help.
Me I have changed all the light bulbs in my home to fluorescent also, I just got my home weatherized 6 months ago which included...insulation in my attic, weather strips around doors and windows, and a new furnace.

Nothing you, yourself can do unless you can take all the ocean-going vessels out of the ocean. And they even measure their size by water displacement. Where else could the water go but up. That is what is causing the " global -warming ", not you.
