Can someone please tell me why all these people are fighting over that dry, arid little patch of dirt there?

If you want to know the real underlying cause of the Middle East conflict, it boils down to a contest between the God of the Bible and the God of Islam.
All the other issues are peripheral.

Because each side feels it is their dry, arid little patch of dirt...the same as children fighting over space in a sand box. I know that being fanatical, most atheists or agnostics would prefer to believe that all the problems in the world are caused by religions, not by human greed and intolerance.

I'm not sure actually...there's so much violence and death happening in the world that I just don't bother watching the news anymore. It really gets me down.
I think they are fighting over land or sumthing, which is SO STUPID. When they die they are gonna leave all the land behind, so why fight over it and kill everyone??

Somehow they think that little patch of land is special to this god who created the entire universe, not to mention heaven.

its called the holy land GODS Israel Israel the Jews own it and the Muslims want to wipe out the Jews and the Germans and Iraq and Iran and Russia and Egypt an d Sadie Arabia and get it and they cant win because GOD pr octets the holy land love dad

because origionaly gaza belonged to isreal and the palistinians took over and the isralies want it back
