I am trying to think of something unique for my nephew. His mother told me that he's into Pokemon, but everyone else is getting Pokemon toys so I want to give him something different. He would probably like most things that boys his age are into, but again, I am looking for something a little bit different so he has some variety in his toys!!

I was thinking of maybe a craft set of some kind, he likes making things..
I also was thinking of a book that he could fill in about himself.. Does something like that even exist?

Any comments on those two ideas plus your own ideas are very much appreciated!!!

The hottest things around are Transformers now that a new movie is out. He'd like that.

Crafts are tough for a 7 year old as is a book they fill out. I do think books are great (especially Caldecott winners and the recommended ones from your local bookstore.

Something he and his Dad could do is good also. There are some inexpensive toy helicopters that work by remote control. May not go over great with Mom (smaller ones will run inside) and aren't that expensive.

Good luck. I'm sure whatever you pick will be great.

P.S. How about transformer pajamas?

I bet he would like transformers stuff. Or maybe something unique and fun like a pogo stick. One thing that seems to be a sure-fire hit is a book on how to fold fancy paper airplanes. I just did a schience class with a group of boys where we did paper airplanes and they got so into it the did not want to leave school that day. There are tons of these books on amazon.com. Other things I have noticed boys enjoy: butterfly nets and bottles designed to hold captured insects; chemistry sets; magic sets; kits; parachute action figures

Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to read their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Scooby-Doo, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... It's something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!

A kids camera and a scrapbook. They have them at Toys R US. They are pretty much unbreakable. Made of hard plastic and are waterproof.
He can take pictures of whatever he wants and when you get them developed put them in the scrap book with notes. He'll have fun doing it and later down the road it will be fun for him to look at the book & remember what he did.

If he's into crafts you could make him his own "craft kit" just get a basket and fill it with crayons, glue, clay, pipe cleaners, paper, etc....

My son was also into pokemon at that age... it wears off by about 3rd or 4th grade. One thing I did buy him at the time was a binder with the pages that hold cards.... when he did grow out of pokemon cards he pulled those out and replaced the spots with baseball and football cards.
