The title of your question and the text implies that you are trying to find information about the relationship between hallucingenic drug use and schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is NOT caused by drug use. It is a brain disease, which is thought to be partly genetic.
Now, using drugs like LSD and Mushrooms might cause symptoms of schizophrenia, like paranoia and seeing things, etc, but the drugs do not produce the disease.

Okai well basicly none of the above would cause it. It is something you are born with and develops usually before the age of 18. But if there is sever trauma to the head it can be developed. All of the factors you mentioned will have an effect on the disease except for smoking. First your familly, your friends, and your partner are your support group and they will help normalize and support the person suffering from shizophrenia. The person's attitude on life will also have an effect on how the person deals with the diagnosis. A: If the person is positive he or she will realise that they can keep on living a happy and succesful life. B: A very negative or ''depressed'' person will probably see no point in living a life as a ''crazy'' person (schizophrenics being seen as crazy is completly stereotypical), also if they do not take their meds and get all the required help their life won't be as ''normal'' as it could be. Some people suffering from more severe types of schizophrenia can be violent towards themselves or others. Because the voices in their head have so much power over them that they will often give in to whatever it says. Or a person suffering from the disease also subject to abuse and violence may experience more abusive behavior and voices. But schizophrenia is really hard to generalise because there are so many different kinds and degrees of this disease. But it is very interesting. Oh actually I just found some interesting research on how 80% of schizophrenics smoke. The nicotene in cigarettes apparently help them have orginise their thoughts, have a deficit in memory, and can focus better. But it is simply a theorie and nothing has been proven.

Try: type the following into Yahoo! web search for lead in links to answers for your question.
Hallucinations/LSD
Hallucinations/cocaine
Hallucinations/ heroin
Hallucinations/alcohol
All of these drugs are addictive and can lead to long term psychotic symptoms similar to those of schizophrenia. Symptoms of schizophrenia (which is a spectrum of disorders, not a single disease) can occur with out any history of or relation to street drug use. The medical profession does not know what causes the hallucinations that occur in some types of schizophrenia.

If you look up Bi - Polar you will be lead to info for schizophrenia. Try www.revolutionhealth.com
Or www. Geodon.com
There is also some similarities in suffering from schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease and the effects of certain drugs, that may be another avenue for you too. And if you think you may have this, please go see your doctor. This was in my family and its horrible if that person doesnt get help. Good Luck

Having worked in healthcare for many years I can tell you that there is definitely a connection with schizophrenia in young adults and what is called polysubstance abuse. These individuals have a history of abusing "street drugs", usually a variety of them. The difficulty in diagnosis is that many people with mental illnesses will "self medicate" to try to avoid the symptoms. It is important to note when the symptoms first manifested, i,e. were they prior to the drug abuse or after? There is no question in the scientific community that drug abuse is related to abnormal brain chemistry.

if i am understanding you question alright you might try going to webmd and just going online under schizophrenia. i found alot of information when i was diagnosed. and it was fairly easy to understand, if you are looking for a good med for schizophrenia ask your doctor about seroquel. it is an excellent one and the side affects are not too bad. i take 700 mgs per day and it keeps me fairly well under control.
