There has been so much rain they won't allow boats on local lakes. I have been other places they banned swimming after a flood.

Check your states Department of Interior or Fish and Game (or what every your state calls them)web page for fish advisories.
They are not always picked up by the media, not scary or dramatic enough for the news media....dam shame that is the truth tho

Eating the fish would depend on what is located nearby the lake. Example: Wastewater treatment facility, or mining of any kind. Microbes can infect a fish and show no signs of infection for some periods of time. Pretty scary

If not your state government's enviromental department would release a statement to local media and post signs saying the fish is unsafe to eat.

Dude as long as the fish is healthy then yes

(Check eye color and gill color)

check the gills to make sure they are a dark red color
