I don't think they even do two year contracts anymore, if they do then its only for a select few mos, that have a very short and low cost AIT like infantry for example. If you have a longer, or high training valued AIT, then they'll make your min. contract lenght longer, for example anyone who has to enlists in anything in the aviation field has to sign for atleast 6 years active. So it all really depends on the mos you choose. Then of course your active duty commitment and inactive reserve commitment must add up to 8 yrs.

Yes you can but as someone else said, once that 2 years is up you still are not finished. You have an obligation of 6 years to the IRR. So in all your actually in for 8 years. 2 years active and 6 years waiting to be called up.

Yes, you can join for a 2 year commitment of active duty, but you will also incur a 2 or 4 year commitment of inactive reserves, and at the rate that they are calling them up to active duty, you might consider just joining for the four years. My advice to you though, is to consider the Air Force instead. It's a totally different military.

It depends on the job you choose, some MOS's (jobs) have a 2, 4 or 6 year contract. Look into the different job requirements.

My cousin is in the Army and he started Basic in the summer of 2005. When he graduated from Basic they said he would be done June 2007 (last month), but now they've extended his time to December. A little advice: don't join the Army! Branch Marines!!!!!!

actually, you sign up for EIGHT years. at least three of them must be on Active duty, and how long you must serve is dependent on the job you get.
