Right.
This is a great verse for who we are in Christ. We are the sheep of His Pasture. We know His voice & we don't listen to the false prophets. We have eternal life in Him. We will never perish. No one can take us out of our Good Shepherds hand. Father God is our Father God and He is the Greatest, the Strongest & the Brightest and no one can snatch us out of our Father Gods hand. We are one in Christ Spirit.
If some Church people deny Christ & turn to an antichrist belief, they aren't really born of God yet. So aren't born again.
FatherK, being born again makes you a true Christian. Not water baptism. Born of His Spirit, cleansed by His Blood, joing heirs with King Jesus, part of the family of God.
But baptism of the Holy Spirit is certainly the seal of everyone born of God. The Holy Spirit is with person born of the Spirit & will fill... (baptized).

"It seemed like this was all in here because people way back then did all of these bad things to be against Christ -- wore certain clothes, cut hair a certain way, etc. What gets me is that it comes off that God is hateful and those people need to die." First of all, congratulations on having a conscience. Many Christians forget theirs as long as it's their God doing the slaughtering of women and children. Secondly, here I am an atheist seminary graduate with a graduate theology degree and half a doctorate who taught and preached for years and you want to exclude me from answering, though the fact is that most Christians are exactly like you: so ignorant of their own faith and Biblical history that even us atheists are embarassed for you and your religion. At least you are asking questions and thereby admitting you don't know. Most of your co-religionists know nothing and think they have all the answers (As a pastor it was very frustrating to have Christians quote Ben Franklin, thinking it was scripture, and yet these would be the most pharisaic and law-bound). So here's my suggestion: A good study Bible will have an introduction at the front of each book, often each chapter, that will help you with history and context and orthodox interpretation. Without studying that first you'll probably believe all sorts of nonsense that even Christianity doesn't teach because you misinterpret and misunderstand things like the Levitical laws for which you have no cultural context. Don't trust your fellow Christians to always know their Bible. Most of the Christian folks posting here know almost nothing but are certain everything they think they know is god-breathed, even though it directly conflicts with scripture (something most have never studied systematically).

Actually, I find that your definition is arbitrary and judgmental.
Your mileage may vary.
Being a Christian ("true" of otherwise) is NOTHING we can do on our own. Your test of a "level of faith that is good enough" - is pure (or at least "semi-") Pelagianism. God does not grade on the curve.
In your systematic theology, then...just how much faith is enough? Look at the text you provided....It's clear..."God The Father GAVE them to (Jesus)"
Becoming a Christian is God's work in us...in a Sacramental way. We are made His and sealed in the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Being Baptized makes us a Christian.
And - I must agree with you, partly, although I think that your logic and Scripture usage, (at least in this case) is flawed:
A Christian (good, bad, true, whatever) can NEVER become a non-Christian. Holy Baptism marks us as a Christian for all time. We are ontologically different after Baptism. This is what the Church has always taught.
A person may be a good Christian, or a bad Christian...or, declare to the world that they no longer have faith...but - they are still a Christian in God's eyes.
Baptism marks us as such.

The apostle Peter publicly denied Jesus three times out of fear of sharing his fate. If he still believed that Jesus was both God's son and his personal saviour, why would he fear any man? Is it possible that Peter stopped believing, even for just that one night after the crucifixion? If he did, then by your logic, he was never a "true" Christian to begin with. It would follow that the first pope was a fraud, so the Catholic church is a fraud, and the protestant churches--which distance themselves from the Catholic church, but idolize the Catholic-manipulated Bible--are tainted.
Here's a hint junior: Not everything that is written is true.

But that presumes the bible is correct!
(And that the father exists outside the mind of a believer)
There remains a scenario which your statement does not cover, of sincere belief followed by the realisation that the bible is not infallibly true in all it affirms.
Now, *IF* Christianity is true, your statement carries more weight but that is the very point up for discussion, so cannot be used to determine the former mindset of ex-Christians.

You have a good point. But, it also says that in the end times many will turn away from Him. Meaning that they loved Him at one point, and then later on they turned their backs on Him. I see this happening daily with people who say they used to be Christians but their not anymore. It is true that someone can sincerely love God at one point in their lives and then allow the evil one to deceive them and turn away. This is exactly what the devil is trying to do when he "digs" up things such as the "gospel" of Judas. He is trying to cast doubt on the bible. He won't get me.

A TRUE CHRISTIAN can still use their reading comprehension skills that they learned in school and figure it out on their own.
Yes they can.

Okay, well that's good. I'm glad to hear that because, as a Jewish person, I wouldn't want anyone like you as part of my religion.

Your bible has been proven wrong in so many other places.
Why do you think it's any different here? I mean, if your bible WAS the word of a god, we've already proven that he's a liar! :) I mean, come on, man! If he's not a liar, he's mentally retarded.
But I can only assure you, I was a most devout Christian.
I was a most reluctant atheist, in fact.
