Possibly, though I don't think Copernicus and Galileo were ahead of their time. There's no reason why the rest of the intellectuals of their day shouldn't have embraced them, except for the crazy religious leaders.

Yes, it is still way ahead of its time, which is why some consider it offensive. I agree with his ideals that people shouldn't separate themselves based on country of origin, religion, or other man made differences. In the end, we are all human beings with the same basic fears, needs, and dreams. A world without religion wouldn't necessarily be more peaceful, but it would be less hindered by dogmatic thinking.

Imagine was just about as inventive as the wheel would be today. People have been trying to eradicate God from society since the dawn of time, thinking they could just do it themselves.
Some of those societies and cultures have been literally wiped from the face of the earth.
Lennon was a troubled man who couldn't even back up the peace claims in his own house, let alone the world. Just ask his son.

Eh, sorry, but it'd be hard to say that, communism had been reasonably popular in America for a good 30 years at that point... Singing about what people like about it wasn't really very revolutionary.

John is one of my heroes but the theme of Imagine is an old theme that has no doubt been discussed among enlightened people for milleniums.

He was able to put those thoughts to music.

The problem with saying that is that I really don't think humans will ever truly get rid of their selfish ways and make what John described into reality.

further, I think it took the church some 250 or so years to apologize for the Galileo affair, and the Imagine thing will take at least another 1500 years.
