HI,
There's no such thing in all of the Bible as a denomination,
You can look from page one to the end, you wont find it.
So why is it that there are many denominations?
Because the christians suffer from a lack of uniformity.
They believe in One God, but differ in their approach to
Him, thereby having different doctrines that are out of
harmony with "Real Scriptures". Yahshua and his followers
were originally from a sect that broke off from "JUDAISM"
due to extra "LAWS" that were added by the priest for
there own benefit in monopolizing control over their
people that were not in accordance to the original laws
that were given by "Moshe"(AKA-Moses), which by the
way were, 613 in all. Today's Christianity is not in
agreement nor in accordance with what was once taught
by Yahshua or the original 12 apostles, and that's why you
have this division of Churches/Denominations.
And as a matter of Historical Fact, Yahshua was never at
anytime called a "Christian" nor was his followers!
A Big Plus, was never called "JESUS" either!

The only way I can interpret a "denomination" would be the same way that I would interpret different flavors of coffee. Are they useful? Maybe. Maybe not. I think it is more based on a persons taste. If they would like to get good solid teaching on how to live their life according to basic biblical truths, then they would probably like the four-square denomination. However, if somebody like a more solemn assembly they could prefer Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian...
All denominations are generally sparked off of a particular aspect of the bible that a key person or group of persons felt was beneficial to the body of Christ as a whole.
To say that one denomination is more useful than another is definitely not my place. I have my preference, but to go telling someone that they are going to hell or misguided because they choose to worship a different concept of Jesus than me is truly hypocritical.
A lot of persecution of denominations and religion in general is caused by ignorance. People think that they have an idea of what occurs in all the different groups of religion, yet they haven't set foot in a church, a mosque, a synagogue, or whatever it may be.
You're true question should be "Ignorance, useful or useless?"

1. Jesus did not have a "religion," He had a personal relationship with God. He was a Jew- because they are God's chosen people.
2. He did not have a denomination.
3. Denominations- before- like hundreds of years ago- were made by people who believed a certain thing in the Bible, a certain way. Sometimes it was as little as how one should and when one should be baptized.
These different groups of people separated themselves and identified themselves with what they believed the Bible was saying about a host of different things. From communion, soul winning, baptism, salvation, church ordinances, spiritual gifts- they believed something different so they made their own group and separated themselves and classified themselves by exactly what they believed.
Now- sometimes anyway- you can pretty much determine a church's doctrines and beliefs by what name they go by.
Denominations are changing and mixing so much it is hard to tell. I would not say that denominations are useless but they can be confusing.
I am baptist- by choice, by conviction- not by birth. I know what my church believes but if I go to another baptist church in the next state- they are actually quite different. Their church sign says baptist- but they are not the same as my baptist church.
Do not judge on denomination- anymore it is not always a straight line.

Roughly 3000 years before Jesus Christ walked on Earth it was said "The Tao is the Truth, the Light, the Way"
Too bad they didn't have copywrite protection laws back then.
While I don't have a problem with that fact that someone wants to repeat this for himself -- I do have a problem when people believe that ONLY Jesus has ever said this and therefore it MUST be true.

All who come to God in The Way He prescribes receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Those are the ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven.
just being a member of a man invented"denomination" will not get any one into heaven... but it could very well lead them to Hell if they do not come to God as He prescribes... God dose not concider denominational membership in decreeing the title Christian upon any one.... and Only God may decree any one a True Christian.

Jesus is God.
Jesus was raised Jewish when He was a child.
Jesus isn't Baptist or Catholic or Pentecostal.
Jesus is the Christ and we who follow Christ are called Christians.
Remember Jesus is God, who became flesh.
Good denominations won't get you into heaven but bad denominations can keep you out.

My own person belief is Jesus isn't a religion and I'm not sure He even approves of religion. He calls us to be Christians, to be one big Christian family. Religion is man made something man did when they had disagreements regarding procedures and beliefs. Denominations creates friction which the Bible clearly is against.

"Is Christ divided?" (1 Corinthians 1:13) He is not!
The many denominations should not exist.
Notice what 1 Corinthians 1:10 says;"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."
Jesus prayed for such unity in John 17:20-21.
Why do we have so many divisions? Men are not satisfied to all speak the same thing. Men are not satisfied to teach only the word of God. Men are not satisfied to only speak where the Bible speaks, and be silent where the Bible is silent. Men are not content to do Bible things in Bible ways and call Bible things by Bible names. Too many wish to add their own desires and teach their own doctrine.
Notice 2 Timothy 4:2-4.
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
We should return to the Bible as our authority and only guide book. We should have a "thus saith the Lord" for everything we teach and do as a church.
The Bible teaches that the church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23) and that there is only "one body" (Eph 4:4).When the church first began, there were no denominations.
In Acts 2, we see that about 3000 all heard the same message, all understood it the same way, all believed it the same way and all obeyed it the same way. The result was they became Christians - nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. At this point, God added them to His church (Acts 2:47).
There is no authorization for Christians to "join the church of your choice", but they were added to the church Christ built and purchased! (Matt. 16:18, Acts 20:27)
After they became Christians they continued in one accord in fellowship and together in the apostles doctrine. (Acts 2:42-47) They had the type of unity Christians should have.
Today, if we read and understand what they understood, believe what they believed, and do only what they did, without adding any man-made doctrine, we will become only what they became - Christians!
This is the goal and plea of those who meet together under the name "church of Christ" today. We only want to be the church you can read about in the Bible.
Christ is the head of the church, therefore we have no "headquarters" on Earth that oversees the local congregation, but each congregation goes directly to the Bible to see what should be taught and practiced.
A denomination is larger than the local congregation, but smaller than the universal church. Since the church of Christ congregations are autonomous, only governed by local congregations, with no regional, national, or world-wide "headquatrers" they are not a denomination. There is no man-made organization in between the local congregation (which is not a denomination) and the church as a whole (which is not a denomination).
We only want to follow God's word in our name (Rom. 16:16), method of worship, organization, and teaching (doctrine). The word of God is sufficient for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction. Using it in this way, we can be completely furnished with everything we need, and there is no need to add any man-made doctrine. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
Those who teach as doctrine the commandments of men have form of worship that is vain. (Matt 15:9)
I invite you to examine the Church of Christ by a comparison with the scriptures! If the things we teach are scriptural, found in the Scriptures, then accept them. If the things we teach contradict the Bible, then reject them!
Any church that claims to follow the Bible should not object to such a comparison to scriptures. In fact, they should encourage it!

Denominations serve only to divide. John 3:16 says that all you need to do is believe. Christians (and folks in general) need to work more to find common ground instead of focusing on differences of opinion.
