Teach him by example. That is, let him see the love in you. Let him see you praying at night. Let him see you reading the Bible. Then, as he grows, read some of the fine christian books available for children. If you can't afford to buy them, take your brother to the library and pick them together.

I want to apologize first of all for some, or should I say most of these answers so far-
My 2 children accepted Christ at 5 years old- and I can remember what made them come to Christ- was presenting it simply- tell him/her how much God loves them, and wants to have a relationship with them- through Christ. SIN is a huge word for a little person, however, my kids understood it by saying- 'that we do bad things' and we need someone to save us and help us do better- and that is Jesus. My kids accepted Christ at a VBS- and for a couple years thought they needed to say the "prayer" more than once, but when they got older they understood, once saved always saved. Christ died on the cross once, you only need salvation once.

There are many Christian bookstores out there that have books for children that explain the Gospel in terms they will understand. You can also take them to Sunday school if you are so inclined... most churches have a class on Sunday mornings (around 9:30 or so) that have classes for 6 year olds (it is called Kindergarten usually). Or, if you are so inclined, you can take them to a Saturday church (Seventh-Day Adventist, or Seventh-day Baptist are two that come to mind) and they also have children's classes around 9:30 am on Saturdays. They will learn about the Gospel in class as well.
But keep in mind... a child learns from observance. You want your child to learn the Gospel? Live it in your household. Be Christ-like in all you do... don't just preach it... live it.

"God is in Heaven, but He sent His son, Jesus, to the earth. He was born just like you and me. (Stay away from the whole virgin birth thing unless you also want to give the birds / bees talk.) When He was the same age as [insert name of family member or friend who's about 30 here], He began to walk all around Israel, telling everyone about God. He told them they could be friends again with God and live in Heaven forever, if they would only follow the teachings of Jesus. After 3 1/2 years, Jesus went up to Heaven to be with God again. (Leave out the crucifixion -- a 6 year old can't understand.) If you believe Jesus came to earth and you follow Him, you can go to Heaven, too."
EDIT: I think its WONDERFUL that you love your little brother so much that you're telling him about Jesus. God bless you!

Teach the good parts first. I've been teaching my children the gospel since the day they were born. And if the subject of sin happens...just simply tell them the good part. Yeah, people do bad things, but God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ. And through Jesus' Atonement...we can repent (say we are sorry and not do it again) and we will have a clean slate.
Also, get lots of good books to have discussions around. You would be surprised how much a 6 year old knows and is curious about.
With children...just keep it simple and uplifting. I think that works for most people really. :)

This is a genuine answer. I applaud your love of G0d and desire to teach your little brother about G0d.
Therefore, please bear in mind that the NT is written by man. It is not divine at all. The concepts of Jesus are man made and not divine.
If you want to teach your little brother truth, teach him about G0d (not about an idol named Jesus), and teach him the word of G0d (the books that Chrisitians refer to as the 39 books of the OT).
And, Genesis is first- would it not make most sense to start with that which is first?
That is my sincere advice to you.

If you know the Gospel well, it is best to explain it in a way that the child can understand. I would leave out the gruesome details of the crucifixion, and simply explain that Jesus died as payment for our sins.
It would be helpful to get a children's Bible. Check with a Christian bookstore or any bookstore that carries Bibles, and you should be able to find one appropriate for your child. I have bought Bibles for my three children since they were babies. My youngest is 6, and she is reading her own children's Bible now!

While they were asleep, not like they'd be paying attention anyway, lol.
I would teach them the 10 commandments though, since the majority of those have a strong moral foundation outside of religion, along the lines of don't steal/kill, etc.

Offer it as a choice.
Teach the "Gospel" as well as learn and teach other religions so that the child may choose what path he choses for himself (or herself).
To study, learn, teach, and pass along the knowledge of other religions (without bias) would offer the proper teachings of religion to anyone (especially a child).

First of all;
You have to have roll models, (people walking it) kids already know how to sin. that's there nature. Thanks to Adam and Eve we are born with it. then simplistic teaching.
Back when our fore fathers started this Country the Bible was one of the text you did studies with, they have case history of young men of 12-16 studying and passing Harvard College entrance exams.
