Fever blisters and caused by the Herpes Simplex virus. If they are really bad or you have a lot at one time, there are prescription pills and topicals you can get from your doctor.

If they are not serious but just annoying and a bit painful try Abreva, which can be purchase over the counter at your local pharmacy. It really help shorten the duration of the blisters, especially if you start applying it when you feel the "itch" and before the blisters actually appear. Sometime it will stop them from popping up. I use it and it helps a lot.

Germs can cause fever blisters.
I had one once, and it seemed like it just came out of nowhere! I immediately went to my room and put on some Carmex and it went away within the hour.

*Also you might try vinegar: it gets rid of canker sores on contact!
