It has nothing to do with the founding fathers. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. The Secretary of the Treasury received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins. There was an act of congress in 1837 to put the "motto" on the currency.
Now we just need another act of congress to take it off, because it's outdated and irrelevant, and offends a lot of people.

I'm not sure but it is a good question since it contradicts the constitution. I do know that the line "under God" was an addition to the Pledge of Allegiance.
Jennifer B: It's Buddhists and they don't believe in God, they are Atheists.

In the early days of America, just about everybody was very religious. They came up with the motto. I have no belief in any "god", but the motto doesn't bother me at all.
Today if Friday. The day set aside for the god Frey, the god of reproduction. It doesn't mean anything to me either. All of our days of the week are named after Germanic "gods" except Saturday, which is named for Saturn, a Roman "god".
Don't make too much out of nothing, or you'll refuse to say good bye to anyone. Short for " God be with you ".

Because of anti-communist hyper-christianity in the 1950s during the McCarthy era and early Cold War. Out of 230+ years of the US's existence, IGWT has only been the national motto for 50 of them.
As for the founding fathers, in particular Washington, Jefferson (who wrote a version of the Gospels that took out all the references to God or Jesus' divinity), and Franklin, they were mostly deists, and acknowledged but didn't subscribe to any particular religion or definition of god.

I would have to say that is a fact less basis. In July of 2004 a study was done on just that (trust me I am not a fan of polls) but 92% of Americans answered that they beleived in a God. Sorry it is the Atehists that are in the minority but yet this country changes everything to suit the minority, such as removing the ten commandments from courts and schools.

At the time money was created, people were more thankful for what they had. They were good people that believed in God. They had good hearts full of love. They were spiritual and proud of our country.
Now, people have lost their direction. They do not feel. They are cold-hearted and practical. Without a concept of feeling or the communication of the soul, there is no comprehension of God. God is Love. The negativity of this world has caused many to lose faith in themselves and in a loving God.
The irony of the situation is that this pain was caused by ourselves through hundreds of years of cause and effect. Humans cause negativity. God set the stage and we tripped and fell. In God We Trust is still there to guide us along the way. To remind us that we should love each other. Have faith in each other. Help each other. Care for one another. And to remind us that there is more to life than just money.
We have eternal Souls. We are all connected to Love. Just because you hide your eyes or turn your head from Creation does not mean we are still heart-less. You are a creation. It is up to you to love life and be thankful for its miracle. Or to deny yourself.
I believe in God because I believe in you. We are all God. And there are many that have no guidance. The negativity of humans have backlashed this society into a dark age of greed, selfishness, and isolation.
In God We Trust is a reminder that we can have a peaceful loving world with love, hope, faith, and spiritual awareness. It's never too late. For each tear that falls is a reminder of your Soul communicating to God that you trust yourself to be a better person.
We are all a product of our reality. And all people feel love. Love is what we are. Most hide it. Most ignore it. But it is still there just like those words, "In God We Trust."

Because america worships money. The God is the God of money. That dollar bill breaks all boundaries. Green is wht matters. With money, you're above the law, above everyone in America. With the US being a powerful nation, you're pretty much a God on the planet. Money is america's religion and worshippers show their devoutness by endebting themselves and spending money they don't posess.

I'm not a Christian, but it doesn't bother me either. They can have Zeus and Thor on money too, for all I care. All I care is that I have enough money to pay my bills and have 3 meals a day. to answer your question, though, "In God we trust" was first put on money in the 1860's, when the Treasury Dept. wanted to show the unity of Christian Americans.

Well, that is a remnant of the good ideas from better times.
Besides, nowadays it is actually a misprint. It should read: in gold we trust.
Today people use God for all the wrong purposes
