We recently aquired a puppy (shepard mix) and an silky terrier. Both are lively but neither eats as much as they should. We were advised a puppy needs to eat 4 times a day but we're lucky if we get two meals in her. Terrier is older and was abandoned but apart from having lived on the street seems only slightly worse for wear. But she just sniffs her food and walks away. The only thing she has accepted is roast beef that her rescuer gave her (two days ago.) I'm getting worried. What do we do?

A dog won't starve to death, they are waiting for more roast beef. Find a new dog food, something with good nutrition, they'll eat it.. Leave it down, and they'll get hungry and eat.. The silky isn't likely going to eat all that much, but the shepherd will eat. 4 times a day.. how old are they?? 10 weeks + at least you can cut down to 3 times a day.

the smellier the food the more the dog will want to eat it. so ad a LITTLE garlic to get it smelly. and if the dog is hungry it will eat. untill it starts eating put very little roast beef in it with the garlic. and just to tell you Yorkies stomachs are as big as half of a manderin orange. and you should keep a bowl of food out because a dog on the streets will think that it has to save the food for when it gets really hungry because food is limeted in the wild/streets.

We put a certain amount of food in our dogs' bowls and they free-feed all day. Maybe you should try that with your dog. One thing about dogs, they won't starve. They may not eat every day or all the time, but they will not starve.

We've got a Staffordshire Cross and at times he can also be very fussy with his food his going on to nine years old now but when he was a pup we fed him weet-bix with milk not to much though. Now we feed him prota meat which is a long roll and you get this from your supermarket but you can ask also get meat from your local vet and he/she may help you more in feeding your new dogs.

Put the dry food in ur hands and talk to them and be nice and gental and see if they will eat it out of ur hands. Also, try to mix it with wet food, or even put a little bit of milk ova the food! They love that!

You could try adding a bit of watered-down gravy to their food - but you may be setting yourself up for a lifetime of this.
Don't worry, dogs won't let themselves starve - they'll eat when they're ready.
