You need to bring her in to the vet. Dogs get ear infections just like people do but dogs get can get 3 different kinds. One being yeast, two being bacterial and three being ear mites. With ear mites you can't see the bites because the mites are microscopic. What you will see is debree coming form the ear canal. She needs to be seen to have an ear swab done to see what kind of infection is going on. The vet will give the proper drugs for the infection. Please try to get her in today. The vet is your first step to making your poor pup feel better. Give her a kiss from me and call the vet. Good luck

Hi,
I have a dachshund that does the same thing. She's pretty old, about 14 years old and she shakes her head alot along with the scratching. I've cleaned them out with peroxide which helped some. That shouldn't burn her unless she's scratched so much that she's raw. More than likely it's ear mites and all you have to do is call your vet and get some meds for her. My dog has had this before many times and as far as I know there won't be any bites you'll be able to see. Ear mites are really teeny tiny little pests. Try the peroxide first and if that doesn't work just call your vet. More than likely she won't even have to see the vet...they'll just tell you what to get for her from the vets office. If she doesn't get some relief soon she'll just keep scratching and bleeding which will make bad sores in her ear. You might need to also put some Neosporin in her ear also. Cotton balls or Q-tips works great to put it in there. Hope this helps you for your piece of mind and your precious baby gets better really soon.

Added to taking her to the vet as soon as possible, if it is an infection have the vet show you how to flush the ears. It was weird for me at first because one of my dogs gets ear infections when she swims. It seemed like putting more liquid in the ear would be counterproductive. I can tell you from many years of experience with this though that the FLUSH is the best part of the treatment.
It immediately relieves the itching. If left untreated your dog will start shaking her head and can actually cause problems in the skull/brain. Not to mention hearing loss.
Once the vet shows you how to care for her ears you will be able to keep it under control at home by yourself so the visit to the vet is well worth the knowledge you will gain and your puppy will be feeling better immediately.

Could be an ear infection and no, you don't always see the bites of ear mites, generally just the after effect of the dog scratching inside the ear.
Your best bet is to take it to a vet to confirm what ever it is and get medication for it, especially if it is an ear infection. I have seen dogs pretty much lose their hearing in one ear from long standing ear infections.

It could be ear mites or an infection. Look inside the ear to see if there is any redness. This could be a sign of mites. If there is a smell it is probably an infection. Either way, take him to the vet for the proper medication.

You're in a vicious circle here. Ear mites may have caused the dog to scratch, and then the scratching caused the dog's ear to bleed, and a mucky foot introduced an infection. Get to the vet and see what it is, and then you'll know what to do.

Sounds very much like your dog has something in her ear (foreign object). She needs to go to the vet & have it checked. If it's something like a grass seed, which is a common problem for dog's ears, it will not come out on it's own, and will become infected, causing your dog a lot of pain. It's usually fairly simple to remove these, and can be done under light sedation if necessary. If it's ear mites, given the right drops, they are not hard to get rid of. You need to have her checked though, as any guesswork on your part could cause permanent damage to the ear & a lot of discomfort for your poor dog.

Yes or ir could be an invection. Depending on the breed of dog you have if it is a German Shepard then just take a q-tip and dip it in some alcohol and clean it that way. It works with all dogs but if your dog continues the itch and if it continues to bleed I would have to say to the little one to the vet.

You won't see bites. Check for a rancid smell or have the vet check by looking at a swab sample under a microscope.
