My dachshund does that from time to time. Yes, it COULD have worms. If he does it a lot then I would go to a vet to check it out.

Butt dragging is a sign of worms and fungal infection so you had better get some worm tablets from a visit to the vets. You should be treating him for worms anyway, they can pick it up very easily. Just be thankful he can't reach the curtains!

Yes that could means that he have worms. Usually worms are easily seen by the naked eye. If you find worms like grains of white rice in his stool or around the anal then he might be diagnosed with tapeworm. It can be treated by a simple medicine. Check with your vet on that. Other than that it could just be fleas or he's just wiping his butt after he's done with his business. =)

Sometimes it's just an itching thing, but it can mean you dog has worms. You would need to look at your dog's poop right after he goes to see if it has worms in it. If so, he needs to either see a vet or call your vet to get wormer.

My dog does this all the time, I guess it just feels good, kind of like scratching your back???

It *could* be worms or anal glands, but some dogs just like to wipe their butts after having a poop. Some of mine do that.

Never hurts to have the vet check him over, though.

I saw only one reference on here regarding the anal glands. My beagle does that when his anal glands are full. They need to be (pardon me here....) milked. But thankfully the vet does that! My dog never has had worms. Just the anal gland thing. When he starts doing that, off to the vet we go! We just took him yesterday as a matter of fact! We go a couple times a year for that among other things.

Hate to go with the crowd, but the vet is the best bet. It could be worms.

Is he smooth, wire, or long-haired. If he has a lot of hair around his backside, he could have a bit of infection. Try worming him. Maybe he's been eating grass or something. That can really irritate a dog.

Could be worms, but it could be his anal sacs are not naturally expelling all of the feces. This is not uncommon in dogs. Best to give your vet a call.
