can medication even be effective for him?
should I allow him to be around our kids while on medication?
How can I forgive him for all he did to me and them before this diagnosis?

people, you are missing the point here, I do not have any contact with him, nor do my kids, they don't even know who he is. I want answers from qualified individuals not opinions, thank you

Cut ties and walk away. You don't owe him anything.

While he's under a doctors care & taking his meds he should be ok but....how can you make sure that he IS taking his meds properly. There are children at stake here. I'd consult a lawyer to see if he could be court ordered to submit to drug testing & make sure he's taking his meds if he wants to see the kids because if he's their dad he has rights. As for forgiveness, just let go of the past it fels better to not harbour anger & resentment. Addictions have a funny way of creeping back into lives & people relapsing

Yes medication can be effective for him, but it can take a couple months for the full effect of the medicine to work. Encourage him to go to therapy too. Meanwhile, yes you should forgive him for what he's put you through because he cannot help having a mental disease, his actions were beyond his control. That's not to say to you have to forget what he's done, but put it into perspective. Give the medicine some time to work and I'm sure you'll see big changes.

Medication can be of some benefit only if he takes them on a regular basis. Even when he is medicated, never leave your children in his care but supervised visits should be alright; everyone with this disorder suffers from it in varying degrees--some aggressive to others, or some harmless to others. As for forgiving him prior to his diagnosis, that is your bridge to cross or burn.

People with a mental problem sometimes "self medicate" to hide fear or pain. If he is truly mentally ill at the moment how could you not eventually forgive him?

whether or not medication can be effective is his concern, not yours.
if you suspect any kind of danger for whatever reason, keep him away from the kids.
forgive him for your benefit not his, but NEVER forget.

Please do not involve your children in this man's life. Let the professionals help him and in the mean time...be a friend from a distance. I know it's hard to do when you love a person...but you have children involved. Please be a responsible parent.
