He did not make weight by 0.1%. Now they are saying he has to wait 2 months to come back and be down to 26% instead of the original 29.9%. This doesn't seem right to me, is it? Is there anything we can do to get him in sooner?

oh, he was trying for the army. they told him he had to be at 29.9% and pass a step test. For the job he wanted, he would leave in a week and now we don't know what his options are...

The only way he is going to get in is to lose the fat. And remember - being fat is his own fault.

All he needs to do is "cut weight" a bit of diet and exercise wouldn't hurt, but all he needs to do is fast and sit in a sauna the day prior to getting weighed. He can drop 5 pounds easy doing that Unless he's actually getting a tape test, in that case he needs to diet.
No, the rules are rules, and can't be broken. He needs to wait his 2 months untill he can go back.
By the time his 2 months pass, I bet there'll be another ait class starting up, depending on the mos, a new class usually starts atleast once a month if not more. Just cherish the time he has at home while you can.

He needs to spend the next few months doing a lot of running, and laying of crap food, if he wants in that badly. He'd better get used to it anyway, since the Army and Marines will keep him running all the time anyway. Just make sure that he's aware of this (at least in the Army): They put a LOT of emphasis on physical shape, more so than they even used to in previous generations. Your boyfriend could have an IQ of 11, constantly get in trouble and have problems with alcohol, be abusive, and not have a freaking clue how to do his military job... but as long as he's scoring 300 on his PT test, they'll LOVE him. Conversely, he could be an outstanding example as a citizen and a soldier; be a great leader, very smart, very polite, never get in trouble, never touch a drop of booze, and be the subject matter expert at his job; but if he's "only meeting the standards" at PT or occasionally failing PT tests, they'll think he's a dirtbag and treat him as such... even if running isn't exactly essential in his day-to-day routine or in how well he does his job. It's important to stay in shape and stay healthy, sure, for your own sake--but they put too MUCH emphasis on that and routinely overlook everything else. It all comes down to numbers, anyway, and he'll find this out for himself. As long as enough soldiers are scoring reasonably well at PT and other things and the numbers look good for the company commander to report to the battalion commander, they're all happy--because it makes THEM look good to their superiors. It's always about the numbers.

Use the two months to encourage him to lose weight. Run with him, go to the gym with him.
Don't make him any fattening foods to eat. Lay off the junk foods!!!!!!!
They want him to get down to 26% now because he will bulk up in Boot. Being on the border line at 30% is much to much body fat for an American male.

Are you talking about his body fat percentage? That's pretty high! No there isn't anything you can do to get him in sooner. Just tell him to start running and working out everyday. He will still get the job he wants, but if you show up in shape for basic, it will be a lot easier on you. You don't tell the military what to do, they tell you what to do.

If those are the standards then no there isn't anything he can do. I hope that he spends the next two months wisely!
You need to be in peak physical fitness in the Marines. The fact that he even had to be taped implies to me that he's overweight as it is, to be overweight AND fail the tape means he's got some work to do.
Instead of trying to get around the standards why don't you encourage him to MEET THEM! He isn't even in yet and he's already trying to cut corners! That's the wrong answer.
