I'll let you in on a little secret.
The govt wants them to stay illegal. That's because as illegals, they are more likely to do odd jobs for little pay. They will also pay into the system, taxes, Social Security, Medicaid etc. without ever being able to draw any benefits in return.
This allows American companies who would otherwise have to relocate to China or some place to stay in the country and pay corporate taxes and also hire some Americans.
Larger profits for the companies means stock growth and profits for the share holders.
That is what it's all about.
If they all became legal, then they'd demand more money, draw govt benefits, etc. and become as unproductive and lazy as the Americans in the country now.
Only the dummies and racists don't understand the big picture of how the world works.

What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand? they came to this country illegally, the wrong way. What would they do in Mexico if an American crossed the border to go there illegally? Would they give that person his citizenship or throw them in jail? They would throw them so deep in jail they would never see the sunlight again. So why should we want to have people that do not want to obey our laws to come be citizens here? So they can continue to break our laws? And, yes, we can do something about it. Deport them or throw them in jail for breaking our laws as any other country would have done a long time ago. Enforce our laws and it would stop sooner or later. By the very act of not enforcing our laws is why there is the problem with it as there is. If they want to be citizens here, let them come over the legal way and stand in line as others do every year. I say welcome to them with open arms if they want to do it legally

Well, one thing is that the less skilled American citizens earn less money and have fewer job opportunities because they must compete with immigrants.
Immigrants consume a very high amount of government resources, without paying a very high rate of taxes.
1 out of every 4 immigrants in the U.S. are in state or federal prisons. The cost of keeping them there is horrendous, in the billions.
National identity and language is disappearing.
And we would be rewarding bad behavior. You should not reward illegal immigration any more than you should reward theft, assualt, etc. Rewarding some bad behavior encourages more bad behavior.

Why are we so blind to think Population growth is good for out country (let alone our planet).
Our resources are stretched now. Most Mexicans and Latinos are Catholics. They believe in large families and no birth control. Each Mexican we allow to come here illegally will produce a troop. We need resources for these large families and it can drain city funds. I have seen that first hand as a board member on several city commisions. Our cities do not have funds for police, fire, water, health services, and more. Our federal government is going broke too.
I have seen the growth first-hand in the areas North of Los Angeles. Houses were built the Mexicans moved in and then the cities were strapped to provide schools, post offices, jails, juvenile halls, grocery stores and more. It is truly endless.
This high desert area became a ghetto.
How is growth so grand? Californians (native ones too) are moving North to Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho to get away from the non-stop growth. Our populations is busting at the seams with no end in sight. We are allowing anyone to move into the US from countries all over the world.
We see arabs, europeans, africans, cubans, asians, russians and almost every country in the world flocking to American the land of the free. When does it stop or will we continue to allow over-population, crowding, and poverty. We are ruining America, when does it stop?

Giving these people citizenship is telling the world that we are not really a nation of laws and it's royally screwing the people who are trying to respectfully come here legally. These people depend on Americans to make a living now and they'll depend on Americans if they become legal as well. Either way, they'll continue to be a burden and real Americans will bare the brunt of their failures. Giving them citizenship doesn't mean they will become different people. To be an American means you love America. These people want to be Americans not because they love America but because they feel it will benefit them personally. They want our infrastructure and all of the other things that make America great and that they are neither capable of building or maintaining on their own. These people have no loyalty. They want more power in having America further accommodating them. They want to continue living in America with little or no effort to assimilate. The only assimilation that I see is an assimilation to accommodate themselves to benefit them in further raping America. I see a bunch of people who have chosen to segregate themselves and who widely demonstrate their 3rd world mentalities. There is plenty we can do to them since they are here. Fine employers. Don't hire them. Report them. Stop accomidating them. English only. No anchor babies. Citizenship checks on routine traffic violations. It would be easy. They won't come. They'll leave and there are plenty of people that would gladly give them a ride home.

There are good reasons to do so and there are good reasons not to. If it were cut and dry congress would have workable legislation already.
I see your point. Deportation isn't realistic and doesn't work for the most part anyway because our borders are so porous.
On the other hand if you legalize them that's like saying it's okay that they broke the law and if enough people decide to break the law well then we'll just give in and let them have what they want - which isn't right either.
I don't have the answer - apparently neither does anyone else at this point.

I simply have a problem with granting citizenship to people who have entered this country illegally, thus breaking the law. It's crazy to reward illegal behavior with citizenship.
But I honestly don't know what to do with them all either. Our "leaders" have truly let their country down in this situation.

We gave the then-current 1 million their citizenship in 1986, with the added provisions to enforce tougher laws against illegal immigration.
Now, we have > 20 million illegal immigrants. Some "money stuff" you might be interested in can be found here:

That illegals are in our country, and so we should excuse their federal offense of breaking through our borders, is no excuse, at all. It is simply more incentive to invite millions more, in addition to letting the employers who hire illegals get off the hook.
Deport; shut down illegals' employers; build the wall and enforce the law. That is the only way we will have a secure border.

It's not the 12 million already here that I worry about , but The additional tens of millions that would follow. If we say we tolerate illegal immigration, by giving 12 million their citizenship, foreigners would see it as a weekness in our immmigration law and they would want o illegal come here as well.

Because we tried this once before in 1986, we had what was thought to be 1.5 million illegal immigrants here and had no idea what to do so we rewarded them with citizenship. The moral of this story is that rewarding those who break our laws will only multiply the problem.
How many will it be the next time?
