As illogical as the idea and concept of a single god is, the idea and conept of multiple gods would seem worse.

If there were more than one god, the gods would contend with one another so as to strive for each to be the supreme god. The resulting conflict would lead to chaos. Who would take care of and sustain the universe while the war was raging?

Read the Illiad, by Homer, or the Norse epics and tales of their gods (dare one call it mythology?), or the tales of the Shinto gods and goddesses of Japan to see, as example, what might happen if there were many god.

There would be wars, natural disasters, plagues and other calamities on a world wide scale and...it sounds like what is happening now!

Perhaps the old "myths" are not myths after all.

Best answer yet, no god, only cause and effect, actions and re-actions, responsibilities and consequneces.

May it be well with you.

The god of the bible mentions other gods repeatedly. Obviously, the people who wrote the old testament thought there were lots of other gods.

They also literally believed that their particular god lived in the clouds. And that god was quite angry when the people tried to build a tower to reach him up there. Apparently, god thought he lived in the clouds too.

I guess we've just been lucky that none of our airplanes have run into him yet.

Sure he does! Jehovah says in the Bible he is a jealous god, only someone who is insane would imagine pretend gods and goddess and be jealous of them...

Like, if you were on an island with your best friend, and you said, you will have no other friends but me.. you would either be emotionally unballanced to say such a thing, or know there ARE other people on the island.

Blessed be

Actually yes. in the bible god had moses strike down the worshipers of Bale who was represented as a golden calf. Moses challenged them to prove their God was alive by setting up two alters, one for Jehovah (or Yahweh in Hebrew) and one for bale. Which ever god devoured the food would prove that they were real. The worshipers of Bale failed because nothing happened. Moses prayed to God and flames came down from heaven and devoured the food. moses then slaughtered the worshipers

My God said "you shall no other gods before me." also "choose ye this day whom you will serve." so yes, He knew that society would create "little-g-gods..." He gives you the choice to choose...But there is Only One True God!!!
