Lot's father died so he resided with Abram and Sarai...then their herds and possessions got to be great so they moved. There arose a quarrel from the herdsmen and Abram got to know of it so he gave Lot a choice of lands to split off to. Lot got to choose the left or the right when Abraham gave him the choice...he chose the well watered region of the lower Jordan. Lot dwelt in tents near Sodom and since he was a righteous man he was tormented by their lawless deeds.
Four invading kings came in and took Lot and his possessions and Abram got them all back. By this time Lot was in the city and was in a house when the angels came to take him out of the city.
He first wanted to find others to be saved but after trying a few times all that was left was Lat and his family.

They escaped but obviously when warned not to look back Lots wife disobeyed and was killed.

when we have direct orders from God through his messengers we need to heed these orders.
The orders are clear today.

Learn of God's purposes for mankind. Have a bible study to bring your life into line so you may be saved. A destruction worse than that in Lots day is coming. An angel will not force you to get saved.
You must exercise faith...excercise means do something...you can just sit back on your haunches and say I'm saved

According to Genesis 13:10-12, Lot chose to live in the plain of Jordan because it was well watered. Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tent near Sodom, but not necessarily in the city.

At the time that Lot chose to live "near" Sodom, Abraham was still called Abram because God had not yet confirmed His covenant with him, which he does later in Genesis 17.

We don't know that Lot lived "in" Sodom until in Genesis 14:12 where we learn that Lot and his possessions were carrried off as part of the spoils of war by 4 other kings, Kedorlaomer and the 3 kings allied with him, against the king of Sodom and the 4 kings allied with him. In this verse it says that Lot was living in Sodom. Maybe he moved into the city for better defense against attack.

Interestingly, the underdog 4 kings defeated 5 kings and Abram defeated the victorious kings with only 318 men.

Genesis 14:15-16 says that Abram defeated Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him and recovered all the goods and brought back his relative, Lot, and his possessions, together with the women and the other people. Lot apparently chose to stay in Sodom rather than move back outside the city or go back to live near Abram. Fortunately, he followed his faith and the angels instruction when leaving Sodom and did not look back and was spared.

If you recall, Abraham gave Lot a choice of pasture. I don't think Lot chose to live in Sodom; but he did make a choice of the greener pasture in the low lands. See, you just don't park yourself in the middle of town with that many sheep.

Abraham knew God would sustain him no matter where he went.

I have no idea how big Sodom was when Lot moved into the area. They were people familiar with the civilization of Ur, where lot came from, and he did have a lot of sheep; so he was already wealthy.

Sodom, before developing into a pit of filth, was like any other town; an economic unit which people and events had established. Lot in their eyes was both wealthy and by birth a big city boy. This would get Lot accepted in the life of the city.

When Scripture says that Lot vexed his soul, at the events in Sodom, we can assume he made some effort, and tried with his influence, to move the city in another direction.

So, I guess you could say he chose it based on looks; and looks as we know can be deceiving.

There was a quarrel between the men of Lot and the Abrahams's men over grazing field's for their sheep. Abraham suggested to Lot to pick which ever side of the valley which seemed best to him, in order to bring peace between the two. Lot chose the part of the plain which had Sodom and Abraham took the other. Lot did not take it because he was tempted about Sodom. But over a course of time, you will find out Lot keep moving closer to Sodom until he lived in the city. He eventually got seduce into his surroundings.

Initially, Lot was given the choice to take the fertile valley or the more rugged mountain region. He was a man of material pleasures so he chose the "best" for himself. He owned the whole region. Lot was a procrastinator and just went along with whatever life gave him. As he saw the "pleasures" of Sodom, he moved in and even became a community leader. He really never took a stand for anything so as things got worse and worse around him, he did nothing. He really did not have a relationship with God until later in his life. He is a lesson on what happens when we do not stand up for what is right and just "go with the flow". Unfortunately many Christians today have the same problem. Hope this helps.

Sodom and Gomorrah have been certainly 2 cities. interior the Bible God destroys 5 cities for his or her persistent sins of all types, yet it fairly is understood that bestiality became one. he asks Abraham he will save Sodom if he can discover 50 righteous human beings, then 40 5, then 20 and then even 10 which they chanced on in ordinary terms 4, all Abraham's kin, so Sodom too became destroyed. they are maximum renowned of the 5 while you evaluate this is the place Lot's spouse regarded decrease back and became grew to become to a pillar of salt. Sodom and Gomorrah have been actual cities in Jordan too.

Lot was interested in making money. Sodom was a place where much money was spend and made. Lot didnt care for the tedium of herding sheep and cattle.

He wanted the easy life, and be able to make money quickly. He was tempted by the sounds and sights of the big city, where fortunes could be made in minutes. (sound familiar, like Las Vegas)??

But lot was also swayed by the sinful lifestyle of the people of Sodom, and tried to conform to their way of life, (which never works if you are a Christian).

It wasnt until God was to destroy both Sodom and Gamorrah that Angels were sent to Sodom to save Lot and his family.

Hope this helps.

it was the fertile farm plains of the Jordan River, very well suited for his flocks and herds.
Abraham and Lot were traveling together and the amount of livestock they had was so great, the land could not sustain both herds and their workers were fighting, so Abraham told Lot to chose his path and he would go in the opposite direction in order to keep the peace. Lot looked and saw the fertile lands of the plains of the Jordan and chose that. It goes on to say, he chose to pitch his tent in the cities of that plain, "even as far as Sodom" and Abraham chose to live in Canaan.

It was the Vegas or New York of today. Why do people want to go to those places to live? Be crammed in like rats in a cage with everyone yelling at you, robbing, murder running rampant and pay through the nose for a little tiny place that anywhere else you would pay maybe $50 a month for but there you pay $1000 a month if you can get it that cheap?

when Abramham gave Lot the chance to choose his land first, he did it to keep peace, Lot chose the best land. and he pitched his tent towards sodom. Eventually the thrill of the big time drew him in. And he became an important man in the city and moved into it. Maybe he told himself,he could live in the city and witness to it, and still partake of its pleasures.

But we know this won't work..God tells us we are in this world, but not of this world.. we are not to get too comfy here, because we are just passing through.

Like so many of us, Lot made a bad choice.
