"Husbands, love your wives like Christ loved His Church, and gave Himself for it." Yeah. Christ was no "wife beater."

God has the right to punish people. He created us for the purpose of worshiping Him. Wife beaters do NOT worship Him and therefore deserve the punishment that they will receive. God is not unreasonable. The reward for correct worship of Him is far greater than anything any of us will ever deserve. Wife beaters ARE unreasonable, because they are no better than the women that they abuse. But in fact are subhuman.

One of the reasons why you could mirror these two instances is because of the idea of the "patriarchal" god, which is basically mirrored with the "patriarchal" husband or father. This was a really big deal earlier in time, especially in the 16th-18th century. A man was the head of the household just like God was head of the church. Of course, you still have pseudo-religious, abusive men who still have this ideology ingrained in them, hence the omnipotent tone of a wife-abuser who thinks HE is god of his household.
