The three areas that figure into your calorie needs are your basal metabolic rate, your activity level, and digestion and absorption.

Follow the simple steps below to calculate how many calories you should enjoy each day.

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR):
This is the energy it takes to keep your involuntary body processes going. About 60 percent of the calories you consume are used for such things as breathing, maintaining body temperature, manufacturing hormones and keeping your heart beating. It takes roughly 10 calories per pound of body weight to meet those needs. A 120-pound woman, for example, will need 10 x 120, or 1,200, calories each day just to function.

If you spend the entire day in bed and don't move you will burn about 1000 calories. Depending on your activity level, height weight and weather or not you want to gain weight you should eat a different amount of calories. To be healthy eat as many calories as you burn off over the entire day, no less. Too many calories coud cause you to gain weight.

For a 150 pound person to maintain 150, you need 2000 calories and 65 grams of fat. If you weigh less, you need fewer calories. If you're trying to lose weight, you need even fewer calories. If you're about 130 and want to lose a few pounds, I would recommend no more than 1400-1500 calories a day.

It depends on how much you weigh!

If you weigh around 100-120 then you should have about 1500 calories a day.
If you weigh 121-150 then you should have around 1800 a day
If you weigh 151-200 then you should have about 2000 a day
(by the way this is if you are a woman)

2000 a day. But why would you really want to keep track of calories anyway??? You trying to lose weight? If you are, that's not really the way to go about it. Drink lots of water, don't change your eating habbits, and excersize for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. 30 minutes of excersize burns 300 calories.

it depends on your height, weight and level of activity. A very active person is going to need more calories than a sedentary person. A teenager is going to need more than a senior. It all depends. Here is a good website to figure out how many calories you need:

no less than what the BMR requires. those with physically active jobs and compeitive athletes need substantially more calories daily and may need to consume anywhere from 1.5 to 2 times what the BMR requires
