just don't try to understand the reasoning of the cult. their religion if filled with false things based of other religions or what their leaders want. the whole religion is just a crazy cult that changes its rules to fit what a person wants not what God wants.

The rule comes from a "Word of Wisdom" that was given to the church in 1833. Part of it reads, "hot drinks are not for the body or belly." This was later officially interpreted to mean the hot drinks that the people were drinking at the time -- tea and coffee.
Thus, coffee has become expressly prohibited by the church, while caffeinated sodas are not. The church tells its members to take care of their bodies, (and I've never heard of anyone calling Coke a health drink) so some church members refuse to drink it, while others drink WAY more than anyone would advise.
I hope this helps!
*** EDIT ***
As far as if it come from the church, or from God, most Mormons wouldn't see any distinction between the two. Doctrine and Covenants 1:38 reads in part, "whether by my own voice or by the voice of my servant, it is the same."
See also Isaiah 50:10, 1 Thessalonians 4:2, and 1 John 4:6.

The 'Word of Wisdom" specifically addresses "Hot Drinks", and no other information is given or inferred. Coke contains caffeine,as to many soft drinks. Asparatene, a sweetener found in diet drinks is a known carcinogen but is not forbidden. The coke/caffeine connection is nothing more than a mormon urban myth, but avoiding carbonated artificially sweetened drinks is probably a good idea anyway.
Hot Chocolate is the anomaly that isn't easily explained: It is a "Hot Drink" and contains caffeine (not as much as coffee), yet is accepted as 'kosher'. Forbidding this drink would be an unreasonable thing to ask, unless you're insulin dependant.

I answered this question you are talking about, and I'll say again what I said there: It isn't just the caffeine. It's the acids that are in coffee that make it harmful.
Studies have been done, and they have linked some of the ingredients in coffee, and some teas also, with increased risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots. It has also been shown to increase blood pressure, and can be linked to some cases of stomach, intestinal and esophogial cancers.
It doesn't matter if it's decaf or not, the acids are still there. Yes, caffeine can cause problems too. For me, I try to avoid it unless I have a headache. It makes me jittery, and sick to my stomach. Caffeine in pill form doesn't do this to me, only in pop.
I do like chocolate, so I do eat chocolate. But chocolate has such a low amount of caffeine in it that it doesn't really effect you unless you eat a ton!
It is a directive from God, but not a commandment. That means we can choose if we want to follow it. I have found that if I follow the Word of Wisdom that I feel better, have more energy and I don't have as many health problems.
As far as the church owning Coca-cola, they don't. Sorry to burst that bubble!!!

I Think when the church directive was given, the levels of caffeine were extreme like our present day expresso and it was affecting the thinking of the meetings. The rule is not complete abstinence, but moderation. Since the drug affects individuals on a different level, the understanding is to avoid it , so as to have no possible difficulties with it.The reason for this explanation is that many more foods today contain caffeine such as chocolate and about sixty other plants humans use.

The Lord had said that it was wisdom in Him that we should abstain from certain drinks, such as "hot drinks" (coffee and tea), alcohol, and the use of tobacco.
Since the Lord said it I will honor it. It's not the same as a neighbor of mine suggesting to me to follow a health plan for my own good.
The Lord said it and I will follow that advice the best I can.
Furthermore, in a General Conference many years ago, the Word of Wisdom was voted in as to be followed by commandment and no longer a suggested directive. So we follow the Word of Wisdom. Any interview we receive--whether it be for callings or temple recommends--we are asked if we abide the Word of Wisdom. Much hinges on a "yes" answer.
I choose not to balk at this suggestive commandment. There are other things that can be more worrisome.

The reason many stay away from Caffeine is that it is an irritant.. Causes heart burn etc... if we cut out the stress, high fat & caffiene then there would be little or no need for the antacids in our life. Many churches believe that your body is the temple of God.. therefore they should not defile it... You are right that the soda's & other stuff are just as bad.. sometimes worse .. maybe they just don't get it..

I don't know why they would say that. It IS a directive from God, and later prophets determined that "hot drinks" meant coffee and tea. We don't know why, but I doubt it's because of caffeine because of the fact that so many of us drink caffeinated drinks and we still get ouro recommends. There aer other substances in coffee and tea that are not good for you.

Christians do no longer make ingesting wine a sin, ingesting it to a element the place you loose administration of your self is faulty because of the fact the bible says that the physique is the temple of God. comparable with smoking and doing drugs and different issues. No the place interior the Bible does it say that ingesting wine or coffee is faulty. I have no concept why Mormons think of ingesting coffee is a sin i'm constructive they have a reason to diminish back up their perception I do in simple terms no longer realize it.

I told a Mormon fellow at work that Mountain Dew was a caffeinated soda and he became angry. Once he looked up the nutritional data on Mountain Dew he became angrier.
