I believe that all that we know, including ourselves is as much a part of "God" as "God" is a part of us and all that is around us.
I don't think that any belief system is absurd as spiritual growth is very personal and all belief systems are a pathway to "God", just that some paths to full enlightenment are a little longer than others. What is important is that the belief system that the individual is part of, caters fully to that person's level of consciousness.
Not everyone is enlightened equally at any given point of time (eventually we all will be). So as long as what they believe in satisfies their spiritual growth, then it is not absurd or wrong.

I believe in a universal consciousness. (Though I'm often troubled why so many members of said consciousness are such complete morons)
But the belief system I see as the most absurd is Scientology. I find it absolutely amazing that some people are so desperate for a "magic" in their life, that they will willingly turn off their brains, and turn onto something so obviously false.
I mean, to a certain extent, I'm forced to wonder if the whole concept was meant as a joke, and the joker is standing in awe that no one got it. :)

I believe that Chris Angel is the modern day jesus.
Any system of belief that does not believe that Chris Angel is the modern day messiah is absurd.

I believe that Christ was sent to die for our sins so that we all may avoid hell for eternity and dwell in heaven with God instead. The belief system that's absurd to me is the one where people believe you have to believe the same thing as them or else... God gave us free will, He gave us the opportunity to accept Jesus, or not. If we do, then great, if we don't, it's our own fault. But when people try to shove religion or spirituality or salvation down another's throat, I think that's absurd. I believe in evangelizing, and witnessing to people about Christ, but if they choose not to accept, it is THEIR OWN decision.

Thinking of religiousness as being a matter of "beliefs" is a more or less Western way of defining religion. Many Buddhists, for example, are totally oriented toward direct experience and not very comfortable grasping onto beliefs that just stay at the level of abstract concepts.
Reminds me a little of the answer Carl Jung made when an interviewer asked him, "Do you believe there is a God?"
He replied, "That's a difficult question for me to respond to: I know."

Most belief systems are absurd to me. Can you imagine how many problems in our educational system could be avoided if we didn't brainwash children with religion at such an early age?

all belief systems are absurd to me. other than mine of course. agnostic theist. yeah I know its a contradiction, but its the best way to label me beliefs which are: I don't know if there is a God but I think that there is and I think God is good. I think that we were all born with what we need to make it to heaven. that is a concense. your heart tells you right and wrong. accountability and honesty. doing things that make you feel good and not doing things that make you feel guilty. Nature teaches me all the life lessons. golden rule. thats it. The reason I think all others are absurd is because they are selfish, arrogant, and even evil in my view. I think that in my experience with christian people is that many christians "so called" are going to hell because they are selfish, judgemental, mean people who use their religion to give them the illusion that they are going to heaven because they have accepted jesus as their savior. They dont have to be good people, just go to church and ask for forgiveness and accept their savior. Hope that didn't offend to many but thats what I believe and I'm proud to say it.

As a progressive, left leaning atheist, many belief systems are absurd to me:
Anything supernatural (especially Bible literalism), Bush-style republicanism (but not all conseravative principals), communism, extreme libertarianism (but not all libertarian principals), dominionism, racism, fate, 'The Secret', Depak Chapora, isolationism, and the list goes on...

Betti, I'm an atheist who believe in souls, an afterlife, many things supernatural, and that our loved ones watch over us, helping in times of need--angels. I'm open to just about anything.
However, the idea of a creator--God--sitting up in the heaven's checking off our deeds and demanding our praise and worship while ignoring the plights of the suffering and unfortunate just goes beyond anything I can comprehend. It makes no sense, and if such a being was actually proven to exist, I wouldn't worship him anyway. Not with his track record, huh uh no way. It's absurd.
