She should be held accountable. I don't know if that should be jail time or another form because there are not enough facts given to decide.
It appears she did make a conscious decision to shot him while he slept - meaning she got the gun and the ammo and waited for him to go to sleep.
I have worked with domestic violence victims and I understand that there is a lot more going on there so I am not saying that she may not have some defenses here but to allow her to not take any responsibly would be setting a bad precedent and we are not a vigilante society.

First off I am not defending the guy. She should not have shot him, because now if she is convicted and sentenced to prison, the 16 yrs old girl has no one. Not that the dad was any good, he was scum. We are a nation of laws, and the laws have to be obeyed, some are not fair, sometimes the evil get off. Did she show the police the tape? That would have been an easy prosecution, he would have gotten severe jail time, and in prison they don't like child rapist or those who hurt the elderly. HE would have gotten his in prison (his own rape probably). Now, he has won in a small way, the daughter is forever traumatized by the rape and shooting, and her mother will now probably go away even for a little time. I hope the girl has a good support system in family.

Well, I think she was justified, but it wasn't really up to her to expel her own justice. She should have gone after him in a more reasonable and probably more crushing way. I mean there was a tape, that's great evidence and she could've taken him for all he was worth. Anyhow, if she didn't go to jail it would be sending the message that it's ok to kill someone that has wronged you. I mean that's really bad, but you can't just go around killing people. Soon people would think that stealing a pen or something merits death if you're just really in an awful mood you might think, "That ***** stole my pen!" and them "BAM!!!" It would be bad.

I agree with what she did. If she left it up to the justice system both the mom and daughter would probably be dead from abuse before the system actually did anything. Plus, if he did go to jail (you never know how cases will turn out anymore) he would probably be released after a few years so he could go out and do it again. He deserved what he got.
It's really sad how the victims get punished for trying to protect themselves anymore.

She should because she broke the law. It is wrong to kill someone. This is clearly not a case of self defense. However, based on the story, no jury in our country would convict her. What she did was based on emotion and maternal instincts. They will not punish her for that. Some of them would probably do the same thing if it was their daughter.

Yes, it's murder plain and simple. Why didn't she show the police "the tape"? Who says "it was true"? Who's child was she pregnant with? These are questions that would have been answered through an investigation or trial.

Sorry, but yes she should. If they had a video, then it was cut and dry and the police would have had to do something about it. If she doesn't go to jail, I don't think many people will be up-n-arms, but she shouldn't have taken the matter in her own hands.

A good defense attorney will be able to get her declared "Guilty But Mentally Ill" or the jury may choose to nullify completely, provided the "Battered Woman Syndrome" defense is played up properly.
As a member of the Jury ( Rule 1: There are 12 opinions that count, and YOURS isn't one of them - Shark), if enough background and evidence of abuse is provided, I may be up for a bit of nullification.

Yes. You can't take the Law into your own hands and expect to get away with it. She should have called Police or reported her Husband to Child Welfare.

Yes. What she did was murder. She should have gone to the police with whatever evidence she could find (the tape, her daughter to tell her story etc). They would have charged him with rape and other counts. Instead she played judge, jury and ultimately God and took his life which was wrong.
