An atypical cyst would be one that doesn't quite look like the common everyday cyst.

This source suggests that an atypical BREASTcyst is not necessarily worse than a simple cyst.

So, it really does depend on a lot of things. If you have an atypical cyst, talk to your doctor about what it might be and what kind of follow up is needed.

A simple cyst usally refers to a well-circumscribed fluid-filled uniocular cysts. An atypical cyst means it does not look like a simple cyst. Just to let you know, "atypical" in the medical realm, means they aren't sure if its benign or malignant and further studies need to be made.

atypical means just that, it is not like a simple cyst. That can mean any number of things and is a catch all type of phrase.
atypical could indicate size, location, color, morphology, pathology and on and on. Usually it is put in writing, when they don't know what makes it different, they just know that it is different. atypical is interchangeable with idiopathic.

PCOS has different side effects, such as low insulin levels and messes with your hormones. Regular cysts don't cause you do have problems with insulin and they are a LOT more treatable than PCOS. Good luck!
