fish should not smell fishy if it is fresh, not unless you don't like fish. I have a daughter who can smell raw eggs. but you fish eye if the head is still on should be clear not cloudy, the liquid on the fish should in no way be slimy and the safest thing when in doubt don't

There are degrees of smelliness/fishy smell.
Some fish smell fishier than others.
I don't like to eat fish that smells borderline rotten, though,
but you can cut the smell with lemon or lime juice, or vinegar and salt water. Wash it really well, and put one of those on it, and if it still causes you to gag, offer a piece to a cat, and it she won't eat it, I wouldn't either.

Fresh Fish should have almost no fish odor, and Frozen Fish should have no odor or a very mild odor, so no, there should be either a mild odor or no odor whatsoever.

Only if it's old or rotting. Fresh fish smells fresh...no fishy smell at all.

of course, it is a living organism. When it dies, there takes place some biological changes. when it starts decaying, rotten smell arises.
So, it is preferable to cook, as soon as you buy it for your lunch.
Or else, keep it in the freezer as soon as you buy...
